EXUP Removal

Low to mid RPM torque and throttle response on a bike is not nearly as critical as a sled. The bike motor is in a different state of tune at higher RPM, different animal. Mine stays in!

Hmmm that must be why Yamaha developed the cross plane engine because low and midrange isn't important in road racing. :o| :o| :o| The crossplane has the BEST low and midrange response of any Yamaha bike motor to date and is used exclusively in bike/roadracing.

All I know is my sled a 2011 se with almost 3000 miles , should be be loosened up by now , with Ulmers power comander V and air box mod no studs will just hit 100 miles an hour on a good day

Didn't say not important! A bike on the street (general riding)operates in a wider RPM range than a bike on the track, upper 3-4000 RPM. A sled on the trail in and out of corner's will operate in a 6-7000 RPM range requiring lower RPM torque. I don't doubt that a good header and exhaust on a bike will pull more peak HP and in the hand's of a good rider will be faster. I like the throttle response and low end hit of my Apex. Also Yamaha builds and sells bikes for the street and that's where there money is made, changes are usually made for full race application's no doubt.

Not to stir things up, but I have no problem going over a 100mph on my sled. But I also broke mine in "hard", by not being afraid to throttle it, in it's infancy. I now have over 4400miles on my '13 XTX, w/ 171 studs in it, and I don't have to struggle to hit and pass the century mark on my speedo. Are people that have been having issues w/ a "slow" sled, been people that were hesitant to aggresively "seat" their rings? I'm just curious.

One of the big pipe manufactures was on here a while back with plans to build a EXUP delete system, I wonder what happened to that??

seems to be some issue on the 2011's simular to your story thunderbolt there is a thread on it i seen it last week. i think it was in the general area thou.

Wow I hope this is related more to 2011 models than the latest years 13 and 14 apex's,i have never had a hard time with any of my apex/rx1's breaking 110 gps mph and my rx1 broke 117 gps on ice/snow,now if I get a slow xtx for 15 coming off a turbo I will be pisses to say the least, sense I was hearing more good top end stories about these xtx 144's pulling awesome top end speeds.

well if anyone else knows of the thread that addresses this problem please let me know , other than the lack of top end speed this is without a doubt the best sled i have ever owned

11's seem to be hit or miss as far as speed goes. All the 12+ Apex's I've seen so far run strong. My 12 is alot stronger than my 11 in normal snow conditions.

The older the sled the more apt for the beloved exup to be out of adjustment.................

Well my 2011 ever since new has only ever hit 100 on its own speedometer on a good day and my 2007 apex er 121 inch track wasn't any better. this all measured on a good hard packed rail line or lake , so ok guys you tell me whats wrong . as I said before my sled is flawless except for top speed and the o7 was the same flawless except for top speed

I adjusted the EXUP on my '11 before this season started and got 106 gps. Could have gone more but had to let up for a corner. It was a little out of adjustment and the first time it had been adjusted.

If you are talking speedo MPH your 11 is likely with in 1 MPH of radar and your 07 is reading 12 to 15% high. My 12 128" before Turbo and a friend's 11 144" XTX would both pull 110 on speedo on real good hard pack but as conditions get softer top end drops fast. It takes a good running stock sled to pull an honest 100 MPH on snow.
