I agree and believe your and many others reasoning behind the power and speed advantages of using the o/30 over the 0/40. I would be crazy and or foolish to even think of arguing with someone of your stature when it comes to performance or racing sleds. Your past years of racing wins speak for themselves!
I almost went with a non Yamaha syn oil this year, and did ask about purchasing a 0/30 full syn oil change kit fromYamaha, and they do not offer one, so I stuck with what they had. But My thought was the Mobil full syn that many have used on their turbo sleds for the past years. I just did not pull that trigger!! But I still wonder why Yamaha changed to a full syn 0/40 after 2 years of 0/30 semi syn. Do you think the thicker oil is better on certain components?
I’m a little confused why GM with there zo6 corvette street use 5/30 dexos semi synthetic
Track use 0/40 mobile 1 full synthetic. I will stick with what works for me I’m not at the track dragging. I put high k trail riding and sled pulls like a freight train. IMO

My SRX .5 mile oil looked really dirty also. Not sure what was in it. I put in 5w 30w Amsoil Singture Series in. My sled gets started in a heated garage so no need for zero weight. Google 540 rat for a debate on 20wt vs 30wt.Does anyone know if the factory oil is 0W30 Semi or 0W40 Full Synthetic. There is another older thread but it is unclear. Tried to save the oil on my 0 mile sled (changing track) but it hit my running board that was full of shavings from drilling out rivets lol.
On a side note, for 6 minutes of run time, this oil looks like it was just pulled out of the ground in Alberta and missed the refinery all together. Pretty dirty.

Why does our manual say to use 0w30 semi synthetic for 2019 and the dealer says thats what we should be using, don't think some dealers have a clueNot sure if they put a special break in oil in it, but they do want the first oil change done after 500 miles!
In 2017 and 2018 Yamaha recommended the 0-30 semi syn, but that changed last year to a 0-40 full syn oil.
I know the thinner oil is faster and may even be better on some components, but I am not sure why Yamaha wants 0-40 full syn, but that is what I have done, followed dealers recommended oil made for Yamaha snowmobiles.
I’ll just have to eat that snow dust from you 0-30 guys!!!!

JPS - might want to cut open and look into the bottom of Klotz bottles (especially if you have any oil that has been sitting around for a while) to make SURE there is no residue/goo/ gunk/sludge in there. I USED to be a Klotz rider but after an episode of that, I went away from them. I hope yours is ok. The thing about oil viscosity is a lower viscosity will offer less drag and actually better cold start up protection. A higher viscosity will offer better engine protection under harsh loading. It also depends on internal engine clearance and many other factors whether a thicker/thinner viscosity is best for your machine.
Nascar engines have extremely tight tolerances and extreme engineering built into the block and crankshaft, almost no flex. That allows the use of thin oils to reduce friction.
Our engines aren’t quite that special so when running a tune slightly heavier oil would be the safest decision. Something like a 0-w40 offers good cold start protection along with higher load protection than a 0-w30 oil. Full synthetic only for turbocharged engines, not even debatable! Yamalube semi synthetic is for N/A applications imo.

The difference between the two is really viscosity index, a higher number means a wider range of operating conditions. Generally speaking 0-w40 full synthetic can operate under more extreme conditions (hot/cold) and give you a wider range, protecting further at each end of the temperature spectrum.
Any engine that calls for 0-w30 semi can run 0-w40 full syn, it’s like an upgrade for extreme conditions.

Can you mix semi syn with full syn oils
