Feeling Guilty

I was speaking to a NA900 owner on ride this weekend. Commented how nice and low his sled sat with him on it. He got off and it came back up nice. So smooth. Yes shocks work in ours but the geometry. Wow. He pretty much gave me a full tour. Very toned down. Gas mileage, sound, fit and finish. He said it has gone 80 on occasion. You know at low hp it will be very easy on everything. Reliable. He was riding alone 150mi from his cabin. Didn’t think a thing of it. Now I just need to convince wife she needs one! Other than belt and possible issues with more power of turbo version I can see why some would want one.

Just my 2 cents. I own an 2013 apex xtx and a 2016 pantera 7000 Ltd and the suspension on the cat needs way less service than my apex. It is way easier to remove the rear skid and the front suspension after 10000 miles is as tight as the day it was new. No bushings that wear out. The apex is still my favorite for day trips, but for the long haul multi day trips, the cat is my sled of choice. Built in fuel buddy and the best in the business removable saddle bags. I too am intrigued by the 900 ace turbo but will need to ride one for a day to see what quirks they have.

I have no problem changing the fluids on the new yamahas the oil is way easier to change than a Apex is. Chain case is a little more involved but if you have any mechanical back ground it is pretty easy. I enjoy doing my own work at least I know it is done right and if it is not, guess who's fault it is. I would have no problem about you guys complaining about the new Yamaha if you actually owned one but I guess you are not happy with your Apex seeing how you started a different thread about the problems you are having with it. Why do you guy's come on here and say how good the Ski Doo is and that you should buy one. This is a Yamaha site and I personally think it is carp what you guys are doing but who knows maybe I'm the one that's in the wrong for saying anything but anyways I hope you by the Ski Doo and all goes well. Oh wait they don't have the proper track length oh well maybe check with Polaris !maybe they have what your looking for. Peace out
The oil filter on a winder is easy to get to however the drain on the oil tank is really hard to get to and you have to use a cut up soda bottle to get it to drain back through a hole in the running board. On an Apex the filter is hard to get to no question but the oil drains are very easy. I only change the filter on my Apex every other time. Yamaha says only change the filter at 10000 miles. I've serviced both sleds and overall the Apex is way easier, especially when you don't have to change the filter IMO.

No cut up soda bottle for my oil change lower panel comes off with screws and every thing is out in the open. I guess if you do enough service work you find out how to make things simpler. You really don't have to put up with anything move on to the Ski Doo and your life will be so much better.

Great thoughts everyone and I truly appreciate the opinions. I am just getting completely frustrated with Yamaha and ultimately I'm not sure what I will do. I just think that we are being loyal to a brand that now has started mistreating us loyal customers. We all make excuses and work arounds and are willing to put up with an inferior product. Kinda like an abused woman who still stands by her man. To me, the simple stuff counts and Yamaha doesn't care to address them. Yes, they have the fastest sled and the most powerful awesome engine. However, there is a lot more to sledding, especially touring. And for the kind of money they are asking for winder it should have the best designed latest and greatest of everything.

Do you really think that you should have to do that? Why isn't the panel removable from the get go as on the Apex? You spend $16,000+ and you have to drill out all those rivets and install nutserts just to easily service your sled? We are going backwards. This isn't necessarily about Skidoo, its about Yamaha and why we as long time loyal customers are willing to put up with this. We should not have to keep making excuses for poor design and finding work arounds for everything.

The one that I rode had over 7000 miles put on it this year alone and he had only 1 problem which was ice building up around his steering 1 time. He has already ordered a 2020 and absolutely loves it. This was his first Doo as he was a long time Artic cat guy. He told me he is never looking back.

There is a guy on youtube that lives in Great Slave Lake and has kind of his own show with different vids, he was a true blue, every machine he had was all Yamaha and ran them in the most extreme conditions and always did vids on his opinion of the sleds with live shots of problems, his last Yamaha was a new Viper, in his vids he showed the on going problems he encountered with the Viper, he has sense moved to Ski Doo and does a pretty good write up and vid on his travels with the doo now, I believe its a renegade 600 with a back country track, he has now 16000 km on the motor and has never been opened up, and he uses the machine hard, to me that's impressive for a 2 stroke in those abusive conditions, I guess my point is Doo does make a reliable sled also, buddy on the vids said he would never go back to Yamaha and shows a good vid on why, some good feedback I thought.

Funny how all the problems everyone was so up in arms about with the "true blue" Yamahas are no longer on anyone's mind the same people and others used to bash the apex and the nitro and the Phazer all day long. they would every year come on here in spring and bash Yamaha for not getting with the time make it lighter we need storage options why do we have to change donuts and header pipes why does the w are break I am burning through slides the factory wheels junk the speed sensor side bearing failed. and on and on and on. but now a true japan build sled is all they can say they want I guess so they can go back to bitching about all that stuff. Yamaha has advanced this sport more than any other company they had made more innovations over the years than most give them credit for they survived the tsunami and came out with an agreement with cat to keep producing sleds for us and addressed one of the biggest complaints being not having a good handling chassis and then the 998T motor and wouldn't you know here is everyone bashing them again. I think there is no pleasing some of you and you like to be miserable so you just find anything you can to cry. there are a few issues with this chassis just as there has been with apex and vector and Nytro and Phazer and every other sled on the market and then you add the internet and it is magnified. I am convinced that there are allot of trolls on this site lately as well that only come on here to stir the pot and bash Yamaha. It is sad to see that they get away with it too. Someone will have only 5 posts on this site and are on here just bashing Yamaha or stirring the pot about a issue that is quite minor and trying to make a big deal about it. I wonder if there are people that work for other manufactures that are on here just to cause problems. At the end of the day we have a sled to ride with a quality motor and an awesome handling chassis that has a few issues much like every sled I have owned and with a great site like this and the awesome people that come here to help and be helped we know how to fix them and ride on!

THIS IS THE TRUTH!!!

It uses straps and buckles and is not designed well. How about simply locking your luggage on with one click and having it be rugged and completely secure. This is my point. We were strapping saddlebags on 20 yrs ago! There is a better way now. Why are we willing to put up with this?
if its anything like the big bag my brothers B-TX has it is fastened to the tunnel with twist locks.

dude! this is the best response I have seen to this yamacat bashing ever...

I don't think anybody is bashing Yamaha, all sleds have problems and your right Yamaha has advanced this sport with second to none with their engines, but I don't think there is not one member on this forum that has not looked at the other brands line up to see what new stuff they have to offer, does that us traitors or would that be considered bashing Yamaha for looking at other brands, I believe Coolio was feeling guilty because he was a loyal true blue for years and had the chance to ride the Ski Doo 900t Enduro and liked it a lot but was looking for a longer track option, I guess he feels he let Yamaha down, but maybe Yamaha let him down with only a couple of trail sleds options to pick from, not every true blue wants a Winder or a Viper but that doesn't make us bashers, we are snowmobilers all part of the same sport no matter what brand you ride keeping this great sport going,
