I've looked at plenty Vipers for myself and then started looking at a Phazer as a spare / kids sled.
Well a nice low mileage 2013 Nytro in MI was for sale on eBay last week and I held that bid right up until the last day when someone outbid me and won it for $3500! Man was I bummed about that.
So I go to my local dealer to pickup parts and there's one sitting out there - crooked with a clapped out front shock. (Sportland 2 is not a Yamaha dealer)
I asked the owner what's the deal on the Nytro and he said "Chad I'll give you a good deal on that one"
Apparently they took it in on trade towards an ATV and didn't really want to touch it so I ended up with it, locally, at a better price AND it has the SE package!
Well the shocks are already on their way down to Goodwin Performance, a new MBRP exhaust is on the way down to me from CVTech in Canada AND I just got off the phone with my wrap guy
Then I wake up and like a good omen the world is all white in S.E. WI.
Needless to say I am pretty excited about life right now.
So without busting my bubble too much what else do I need to look for / watch out for on a used Nytro?

personally speaking the handling it take some time and effort to get it just right ... they like to overheat ice scratchers are a must and installing a manual switch for the rad fan help quite a bit . they are really cold to ride windeflectors help a lot in my case and last you only carry 28L of fuel and your buddy 40L if there more than 150 km between stop your not making it.

Like GYTR GEARHEAD said the handling takes some time to get it right for your riding style...
That being said it all depends on your riding style and what you plan on using the nytro for, trail of ditch banging?...
With anything used go through all the bearings and bushings front to back, check all wearable items...
I added the nytro mountain rear cooler and have run plenty of roads and rock hard trails and never had a problem with over heating...
I also installed star relocate kit which reduces the the track angle and I had Robert at star revalve the rear shocks with his stiffer rear front shock spring, ride is night and day different now for the better...
I do most of my riding in northern Ontario so I had to get the trail tank which brought me in range of fuel stops...
Mine had fox float x front shocks IMO worst shocks for trail riding, they transfer everything you ride over through the sled and you feel everything, coil over shocks made a world of difference for me, front end is now stable and absorbs bumps like it should...
I also installed WRP seat which is a great add on, make standing much easier...
My last major upgrade was a set of split rail skis which has been my best upgrade yet, I couldn't get the tuners 2 to work for trail riding, tuners only work when trail conditions are just right, I've put on over 4K this year since I put on the SR skis and in all conditions, soft trails, hard trail, fresh snow on trails no matter what I've encountered they worked awesome, my riding buddies can't believe how well they work on loose snow on the trails, 0 push, very little to no more ski lift like I had with other skis and steering is very light...
Nytro mods are endless, boils down to how you will use the sled and how far you will go to get it to your style...
I came off a apex GT I bought new and put 22000 problem free trail km's but like the nytro so much better so far...

Good tip on the rear cooler, if we run hot I'll be looking into that. Right now I don't even know how it SHOWS temp because I didn't ride it yet.
I already priced a rear tunnel rack for it, but I'm also thinking of buying a Ski-Doo LinQ gas caddy kit. I don't think there'd be any problem running the brackets there in the tunnel, my only concern is exhaust outlet.
Not sure if the MBRP has a 90deg. tail & I'm leaning toward no it doesn't...
Anyway it will be used 90% for aggressive trail riding.
I've had good luck with higher end FOX shocks so while I disagree with you there, I am a huge fan of Split-Rail Skis. They transformed my 1200X handling in a great way! But unless I find a used set CHEAP I'm not spending the money on this sled for new skis. The kid will have to dial it in as best as he can with what he's got. I can't see riding this much myself, but you never know. I try all sleds with an open mind and like to think I give honest evaluations after I do. All Mfg make a great sled these days, I really believe that... They all make a not so great sled in their lineup usually too, some more than others!

Wowchad what do you mean by SHOWS temp ? Nytro doesn't have a temp gauge, only a warning light when it over heats...
Fox float x shocks were a high end shock I just couldn't get them to work well for me over the stutter bumps, floats are better at taking the bigger rougher stuff...
True what you said about the split rail skis, they're definitely not cheap but I would take GYTR GEARHEAD advice on snow trackers for the stock skis, they will really calm down the handling of the nytro for the better, stock nytro skis with just carbides will give you a unpredictable sled in the corners IMO, tuners are a bit better but nowhere near snowtrackers...
This is a great site with tons of great info for the nytro, what I've learned on here and how my nytro performs now compared to stock there's no comparison... I can't thank the guys on here enough...

If there's front end damage you may want to make sure the sub frame isn't bent, they are a weak point (many threads here to read).
I've had no issues in 3 years with Fox floats, an OFT steering re-locator + WRP seat were the best 2 things I've added.
Some good overall maintenance will go a long ways.

When you shut it down last, did you hit the kill button and call it done or did you turn off the key? Reason I ask is I made that mistake; turns out there is a constant draw when the key is on and the kill button is pushed (even though the instruments don't come on).
If in doubt about a Nytro battery, replace it. No rope to pull...

That was my thought too, but we had just replaced the battery so I put it on charge last night and this morning it's doing the same thing.
I jumped the solenoid and it starts so it's not the starter.
Checked all the fuses and those are good so I'm guessing a bad relay.
If they are the same I can grab one out of the 2006 APEX and verify that, just didn't do the leg work yet on part numbers.

starter solenoid is bad if it starts by jumping it. cannot be frozen as you have it in the shop. either that or a bad connection from the ignition.

Remove starter solenoid, grease it and try again. If that doesn't work, try a new one. I ride with a spare all the time. Change 4 relays to Solid State versions

Good tip on the solenoid, but I sure hate carrying a bunch of spare parts around with me, I mean that's why I sold all our 2-strokes and bought 4's.
I looked into the newer Solid State relay and ordered P/N 8GN-81950-00-00 which doesn't fit in place of the old one.
Can anyone offer a suggestion there?
I'll try to post a picture, but I think my son already loaded it up with a wrench in his pocket to get through the weekend by jumping the thing
Also after reading more and mp5 solidified this, it sounds like I need to get 3 more relays, but I need to be sure they fit this time!
