Ok everyone, here is my complaint. My face is sore from smiling and laughing so much after today's ride I have a headache. This sled is the real deal. We were riding Tug Hill today and it was one of my best days on a sled ever. The handling and suspension was outstanding with no adjustments as of yet. The steering was effortless, The power, endless and priceless. I really don't know what could be done to make this sled any better. Yamaha, you did a great job. I will need to put on a windshield though, after riding most of the day in 8 degree temps, my hands got cold a couple of times and that has never happened. I have made a couple mods , studs, 4th wheel kit and skis. I would like to thank everyone who contributes to this site so we can learn and not reinvent the wheel.

I had a brand new 1200 Doo in my garage when I bought my Winder on a whim. I figured if I hated it I still had my 1200 to ride and figured some Yamaha lover would take my Winder. Well like you it took me by surprise. I knew it would be fast but at no time did I figure it would ride and handle so well. Now I'm very happy with it and the 1200 is gone along with any other fears about this Winder.

Great sled. Stock skis suck. I smile every time I ride it and when another brand sled pulls next to me on the lake.

Try some gauntlets. My bars get so hot on low I can hardly hold onto them. At 8 degrees with gauntlets I rarely have them on.

Hey Boston, how ya been?
I got a Winder this week as well, studding it today.
I hope you guys coming from SkiDoo understand that you are taking a huge step backwards. The quality, ride and handling is not even close to a Doo especially the new G4 850 and 600r. I know this because I read it over on DT.

I think it is funny how you seem to take a shot at Doo every chance you get.. Truth is I had an 850 last year and am on a Sidewinder this year.. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Sidewinder, it does everything well like you said. For me, I had way more smiles on the 850 than I have had on the Sidewinder.. Don't take that as a bash on the Sidewinder, I just find the 850 to be much more fun to ride and will more than likely end up on one again .....

I'm not really bashing Doo. I happen to have a couple Doo's in my garage and have had great luck with them. I have however had many Doo guys bash my choice when I bought my Winder. For that matter it's more of a 2 stroke vs 4 stroke thing with most Doo guys. Go look at the posts about the new 600r and you will see how they claim the new 600 will be getting even more 4 stroke guys off their 4 strokes. They just don't get that there are some like me who will never own another 2 stroke. If Doo comes out with a turbo 4 stroke you will see how fast they all change their opinions.

I bought my first Yamaha in '03 when the RX1 came out, but kept my Mach Z lake sled.
I work on sleds for a living, I wanted a performance 4 stroke to ride. I installed a Bender turbo and had lots of smiles. Bought an Apex in '06 didn't like the skid and installed a Renegade skid to make it really ride.
Went back to Doo with the 1200 in '09 and again in '16, and got tired of waiting for a factory boosted ride.
I repair all 4 brands, so I have a pretty good grasp and the quality of all.
Really looking forward to the Sidewinder :)

I've had nothing but Doo and Yamaha since 06 because of the 4 stroke engines. I liked my Apex but my 1200 was a lot more fun and a much better sled all around. They all have their pro's and cons but I also wanted a higher performance 4 stroke. You mention that on DooTalk and all you get is 4 stroke bashing and how much better the 2 strokes are and things like tug boats and heavy pigs are mentioned. If you don't buy into the new G4 2 strokes then they consider you an outsider.

In a perfect world where I was rich, I would own both as I also love riding the G4. Buds new XRS is truly a blast. That being said these two sleds are so different I dont feel that they should be mentioned in same conversation.

I think owning both of these is the best you can have of all worlds in sledding. A complete power animal that is planted and runs hi speed trails with ease and limitless speed and power.....

OR

A light flickable mogul masher that can tweak the nose instantly at will to literally flatten out an mogul mindfield so it feels flat. Instant response to your body input and twitchy thumb.

Totally opposite sleds in many respects.....So I would LOVE to own them both.

In the end, If you are a trade up every year or two guy that has money to burn, the G4 fits the bill....But be warned it may go down anytime for no reason leaving you on a tow rope and a warranty claim for 5grand, and BRP will pick up the bill as long as your in warranty and run their oil, and that is what BRP does and usually just carries on.

If you want a sled that wont end up blowing up, and all the problems you can FIX yourself in most cases in an afternoon or be OFF warranty and not break the bank like a etec motor can.

And if you NEED the SPEED like most of us are here for, there is only one choice....2s simply does not have the raw 4s pull down low, and wont have LEGS like the winder has, even stock.

Owning 2 850s and a tuned spinegrinder ,they all have their good and bads .On open Maine trails the SW shines wheres the 850s for me seem to be a better choice in the NY and VT trail systems .It took a while to get the SW set up correct ,but it rides, handles ,and rips now .The tall spindles ,le shocks and the little engine breaking the SW has makes it tough for my 850 buds to hang ,even the tighter trails .As long as people enjoy life and respect people ,alls good .What does bashing prove ?

I agree Ken but if you recall myself and others took a lot of crap on DT when we bought our Winders last year. No doubt if I were to buy a 2 stroke it would be hands down a new 850 Gade. They talk about 4 stroke reliability but now that guys are putting more miles on them you are seeing more and more engine failures. They are still 2 strokes and no matter what you do to them they will still be 2 strokes.
