2008 Phazer RTX
so i bought my '08 Phazer Rtx this year and managed to get my first 160 miles on it this past weekend. absolutely loved the sled, but now i have a few questions, i put Precision skis on it to eliminate darting with 4" carbides and the one thing i can get over is how when on the gas it pushes but going slow or on declaration its a bear to turn, my buddy told me the rear shock is too stiff ( revalved by monster by the previous owner) and i'm not too sure how to adjust it. my front shock seems to be good only bottoming on severe bumps and the rear blocks are set on medium. went ahead and got Ulmers clutch kit to reduce some of the hard engine braking but any one got tips for a new guy?

Somewhere on here are some suggestions for suspension setup. The one that I remember being key was to loosen the front skid shock spring all the way. This should really help with the ride quality. I have mine set with just enough tension to keep the spring from rattling. Then you fine tune your tide with the torsion spring shocks and the rear skid shock clicker adjuster. I am just under 170 lbs. without gear and I am running my clicker skid shock just about full soft and on the smallest torsion spring block. I like how mine rides with all stock shock valving. Anything other than a hard pack, your precision skis will plow or push. They don't have a center keel to bite. With the correct ski toe out and if you shim the skis, you should see little to no darting with stock skis IMO. Also check your skid limiter strap. With my 144" track I pulled down the strap 1 hole over the stock position. I am sure others will jump in here with suggestions. Have fun! G.B.

Thanks G.B I'm going to look at it tonight. Lit looks like everyone says light on the front shock and limiter strap 2 holes in from stock I'm just not sure if mine is in the stock position or not and I don't have a good picture of what mine looks like yet. Where's the stock hole?

How much do you weigh? I ask because every Phazer I have ridden with a Monster revalve was able to be ridden with rear torsions on soft. Even with +200lb guys. They do a pretty darn good job of valving but it is a hair to the stiff side. Another thing is that you are experiencing engine braking and transfer. Takes a bit of getting used to but when you come into corner try not to chop the throttle. Just let up a little and never fully. Use your brake at same time. This lessens engine braking and helps keep chassis settled instead of pitching forward.

And dont forget to hang off of it. Ride it like dirtbike and you will have the funnest time ever on a sled!

Here's some pics of the front of the skid. Also just out new hyfax on it 160 miles ago and the front already has warn though... So is the front too stiff on the shock and not tight enough on the limiter strap causing a horrible angle? Or are these things that horrible on hyfax wear?

Slides look good yet to me unless wore more on inside. They do stop wearing so quick right about when they are almost all the way through. Dupont Slides wear like Iron on a Phazer. Your limiter strap is one hole from all the way out. I would tighten it 2 holes and try how you like it then.

the lip your seeing in the picture of the slide is actually the plastic melted into a C coming out and around the slider. it is not the wear line. and the limiter strap being so lose would cause my massive weight transfer problem. going to go to my local dealer and see what they can do for me on the Dupont slides the cheapest online i've found so far has been $120.

The white slides seem to be holding up better on my 136". Might be a cheaper option.

I would recommend getting a set of Excell wheels and Yamaha low snow wheels. This setup would cost less than two pair of Dupont sliders. I have over 3,000 miles on a set of cheapo hyfax running Excell wheels and low snow wheels on my skid. My hyfax is not even worn a 1/4 of the way down yet. Just awesome. G.B.
