The steering effort is greater than that of a F7 or ZR900.. not much you can do about it.. the engine is heavier.. (do make sure your steering isnt freezing, Mine did last year) the longer the carbide the worse this gets..
I have two different groups of people i ride with.. One group buys new sleds and studs them THATS IT..
THe other group adds clutching and engine mods..
SO ya there are some of us out there who ride the sleds STOCK..

I have stock ski's that I shimmed and this thing is as stable as any other sled I have ridden. And this is with the stock carbides still. Not putting on new ones until we get more snow.
The rear shock is to soft for sure. I am over 250lbs. Going to need the bigger spring.
Stock clutching flat out works if tuned. Riding with many fast fast sleds and mine with stock clutching held its own. I am side by side with an RTX with us who has clutch kit and GYTRDUN exhaust and he is at least 50lbs lighter than I am. He also said, looks like all of this stuff isn't worth the money.
What is worth the money is the Hauck Fuel accelerator! I gained performance with small adjustments to that. I have not done the full airbox mod that I mentioned in a previous post yet. I am still running stock airbox with a minor mod that I came up with one night. I consider this Fuel accelerator a big plus and super easy to change on the side of the trail. Guys had said that my exhaust had a different tone to it than normal. Said it had a little more snap to it. It does! It sounds pretty cool and not as loud as the GYTRDUN kit. I love noise and have piped every sled I have owned, but that Hauck exhaust is a little to much for me. A couple swore my exhaust was not stock. It is. Bone stock. My exhaust does have a different tone. Must be from the small airbox mod flowing more air through.
Gearing: I went to a 23 and seems to work well. The RTX still had the 24 and he and I were tied together as far as we raced. Until he hit the spray. That added 5 lengths to the equation real fast.
The mighty Mach's: As always, they are fast. We had a bunch with us. Two on NOS, and a couple not. One with spray would'nt race. Go figure. The other didn't have studs in his new 128x13.5 hacksaw. With no studs I could kill him to about 80-85 then it was lights out. He came by me like someone hit my brakes. NOS is so cool.
Another non sprayed Mach ran real good. It had a programmer, exhaust (I think just a can), and clutching. He probably had a good 70lb advantage. I could holeshot him by a length, he would catch me by 85-90, and at 100-105 he had a good length on me. To me, that aint bad with a 150 horse stock sled with a heavier rider.
And last there was a modded ZR 900 who could not accept the fact that the GT was stock. I put $500 on the table for him to prove me wrong. He refused. It is a ported, piped, clutched, ZR900. It is a good runner. But he got his feelings hurt. He just had the sled dynoed this week at 173hp on a 45 degree day. So he too makes a lot more HP than me. The biggest compliment is when people refuse to accept that it is stock and it is. I love it. I have spent a ton of time making everything perfect on this sled and it always pays off. The little things that my buddies make fun of me for doing. They think I am just lucky and always get the good ones out of the box. Must be coincidence time and time again. LOL
Great job Yami on producing an amazing machine. I have been riding since 94 and this thing is in a whole different category.
By the way, this was all in Cadillac MI. Snow was adequate. We got our first 100 miles on.
I would be happy to share any helpful info that I have found so far. A lot of good info on this site that has proven to be helpful. On the other hand, I would tell people to be careful what you read and try stuff first. Skis are a good example. IMO, they work fine if you set your chassis up correctly. Even with the shitty stock carbides I feel like this thing works everybit as good as it should. Others will disagree. I am not saying who is right, I am saying try it first. Some people start swapping parts before they even try it. I almost did. Skis and clutching have almost been replaced about ten times in the past three months. It was hard holding off and actually seeing for myself. Now, I am glad I did. Saved me a lot of money.
Good luckVery good post, but dont judge the ski threads to fast,as winter approaches and conditions change, you may change your mind about shimmed skis,i know i did way back in 03,with the rx1,and i have run alot of stuff sense, sounds like you like to test and tune, good job bro,so do alot of us,myself included and and if you think that adding fuel to the apex adds performance than you need to subtract some fuel, wow you will see a huge differance, unless the 07's are that much leaner than the 06 models,at any rate good luck and continuel to post your results... Thanks Pete

I will be playing with taking some fuel away too. I really need to spend some time on a dyno to get the air/fuel mixture prefect all the way through. I know I had originally richened up the main jet setting. It seemed to like it when I leaned it back up a couple spots. Picked up a little. Again, I will continue to play with it and report my findings.
