to answer your question.
I CARE AND I'M THE ONE PAYING FOR IT WITH MY HARD EARNED MONEY SO IT BETTER MEET MY STANDARDS OTHERWISE I WILL NOT BUY IT. I WOULD NEVER BUY A NEW OR USED CAR/TRUCK WITH THE PANELS MISALIGNED OR THE PAINT ALL SCRATCHED UP/FADED. WHY SHOULD I LOWER MY STANDARDS BECAUSE IT'S A SNOWMOBILE?![]()
Read the original post again. You said exactly what I did. If you don't like it don't buy it. I don't know where everyone is getting this misnomer that the f&f was even bad on these sleds. The ones I rode looked great. But then again I'm used to cat standards. LOL!

I have finally gotten to really look over the Prototype Vipers. I see where many are concerned with the Prototypes. I am spending alot of $ on the sled and I really hope it at least looks as good as some of the ones I saw. Tough to know since the Vipers I saw all varied from cool looking painted and well finished red side panels to a faded rough looking blue that looked terrible.
As for fit.I have taken quite a few Cat panels off.Maybe I am used to it but it sure seemed to me that the Viper and new cat panels are now easier to get back on.I think they made the top lip smaller. One area I see a issue is the belt cover.Never have I seen a belt cover that needed to be unbolted with a wrench. This is unacceptable and I am hoping will be corrected. Also a little concerned over the Pyramid Support system that is no longer a Pyramid because it was bent to fit Nytro engine. Cat got sued over that design and I think its important structurally to be straight. Engine mounts on heat exchanger are huge and I dont believe will be a issue like cats. I know these are Prototypes and I have put my $ down on faith Yamaha will do it right. So not getting all worked up but I hear where you guys are coming from.

I brought up the same thing when I saw them.
I was told that they are maybe going to get a quick release. I then walked over to the cat display and took it off and it was also bolted on. I went back to the viper and I was easily able to remove the belt with the cover in place.

Good info Yamahas. Is alot of room between guard and clutch.Check that one off

I never looked that close inside but ! Did you say the engine mounts to the heat exchanger

Yes it mounts to the heat exchanger. On previous cats it was done with mounts made of aluminum sheet and welded to exchanger. On the viper and ZR 7000 it is now two big castings welded on the exchanger. The front mount holes on engine are not used at all where on Nytro they are at least on the Prototype I saw. Before seeing this I thought the big castings Yamaha added to sides were what engine was mounted to. I was wrong.

So do you think it will be strong and not crack the heat exchanger ...never herd of any manufacture doing that....
what's your thoughts .....
what's your thoughts .....

The way cat did it some had issues. The way its done on one I saw I think it might hold up.I dont know though. I am not a engineer. Just concerned since it seems to me we are missing two mounts the engine was designed for.

Why do you need to unbolt the belt guard??? It doesnt need to be taken off to change the belt anyway so why would you want to. Just open the secondary sheaves and pull the belt out, easy cheesy.

Got it HyFlyr.Just used to removing it for belt change since I pull the belt UP to spread the sheaves.
.....which is the best and easiest way to remove the belt.cannondale27 said:Got it HyFlyr.Just used to removing it for belt change since I pull the belt UP to spread the sheaves.
A bolted on belt guard is idiotic and archaic at best....take off the blue tint glasses...what a joke...can't wait til next season on here with thread titles such as "who has the best VIPER aftermarket belt gaurd"....LOL

When you change belts every 5 or 6000 K I don't think it will be that much of an issue.

Why does everything turn into a bash.....
With all the problems I had with my nytro I never got on here and bashed it...I just fixed it and I'm still not bashing it....but I will say I have had more problems with this sled than any sled I have ever had and more than any pro cross chassis so to say yamaha is bullet proof ..well I don't think so...
