fox float 3 ?

To each their own on the wind protection, I wasn't going to let a $70 windshield upgrade affect my choice in the color sled that I wanted. Had I known then what I know now about how badly the floats affect this chassis, I would have still ordered the same exact sled and pulled the floats off from the start and sold them and got a good setup with some coil over shocks like I'm doing now. Have owned both an 06 nytro with floats and also had them on my 06 apex for awhile before I sold it and I saw no reason why they weren't a good setup on those sleds so I have had experience with them. As for this chassis..they just aren't a good setup for how this sled is setup

Depends on where you ride I guess. Here in the Colorado mountains I have floats on M8 and girlfriends Viper. We think they are amazing for soaking up the bumps, but we dont do any flat ice racing corners.

On mine I had my front skid shock set very soft. Now with softer torsion springs I have my middle shock at the stock setting if not a little bit stiffer than stock and it rides beautiful now. The shocks prolly should be revalved yet but in my opinion it needs the softer torsion springs to get some sag in the suspension and atleast have a starting point on the suspension.

Stud, I don't know how that is possible. Hygear decreased the compression and rebound damping by 50 percent and it still doesn't rebound fast enough. I would think softer springs would only make that worse....hmmmm. I am sending my back to Hygear for more changes still.

For some reason mine has never had a rebound issue. With the softer torsions I can compress the rear suspension till it hits the transfers and when I release it it rebounds back to full suspended in like 1 second. With stiffer springs it rebounded too fast and would shoot me off the seat. I'm convinced that these shocks are all messed up with valving. Mine has just happened to respond well to softer springs

I have noticed with mine the more miles I put on it the more sag I have and the softer it gets. I have 3500 miles on it now and it's getting softer.

FYI Hygear had me take out the blocks so I could get some set in but to turn the cross bar so the round part faces the front of the sled since you still want some coupling. It's better but not good enough. I'm gonna wait till end of the season and see what they come up with. Hygear did say that this sled is going to make them a lot of money cause it is so screwed up.

Sorry I digress, the floats are light cheap and little adjustment needed. Got for big moguls but not so good for typical trail riding. Supple they are not. Besides the air temp issues and constant adjustment needed etc they are not a set it and forget shock

True, must pay attention to them and maintain them. But they take hard hits real well! I am going to wait until next year as well and get all 4 new shocks. Just want to wait until someone has them figured out and fits my riding style. Then bang I'll put them on!

YamahaTim, dont mean to change the subject but how does your 1.6 compare to stock track as far as vibration

I guess I never noticed any vibration. I had this track from go and I don't have any vibration.
Seems fine to me. Maybe a little more hyfax wear. But that's why I put the wheels in the skid.

I wouldn't let $70 affect my choice of color either---$500 to $700 worth of shocks is another story.....

My dual rate shocks setup to my specifics are going to cost me $450 including what I paid for the shocks. That leaves me with a set of fox float 3s and the pump that I'll no longer need and I'm sure I'll be able to get the same amount out of them as what I have into the new shocks so really I'm not out any money and I have a better riding sled. The setup I'm doing prolly wouldn't work the greatest for a real aggressive trail rider but that's not me so this setup will be good for me I'm sure.

The thought of going to floats scares me. I always have trouble with stuff like that, and there is a whole bunch more seal to go bad on a float. I'd have no trouble trusting an airbag type air-shock. Airbags are proven to go the long haul.

I put Hygear dual springs on the front and rode 190 miles yesterday. They need some tweaking but seem to be an improvement. I am going to change rear springs also.

Did you get the compression adjustable standard or the more expensive compression and rebound adjustable model?
