TestMaster, I see you have both an SE and Std. Do you prefer the STD front coilovers? Thinking you must or you would not be shopping? Impressions?

I initially bought the LTX, snow checked last year at the recommendation of Yamaha rep. and dealer. 890 miles now. Would still be riding it but my wife fell in love and bought the SE for me on Valentines day so she now rides the base model.
The Std. LTX coil overs and rear suspension is much superior to the LTX SE for trail riding. At the standard settings I was able to bottom the front shocks in tight turns with 2+ foot moguls if on the brake because every one was slowing. On a decently groomed trail, trail junk just disappears. I put the billet rear spring adjustor on when new and position 3 of 4 seemed perfect for almost anyone that rode it. I did not readjust the front shocks because they seem perfect for her.
Only have 182 miles on the SE. Started with the rear suspension full soft. After 100 miles of rough trails and 80 miles of nice trails the rear has softened to the point that the suspension moves freely so I am adjusting the rear to the middle or highest setting. The rear shock is setup poorly. Appears to have too little compression and too much rebound dampening control. This is the same shock feel that my buddies 2014 1100 Turbo AC sno pro limited has. 75 psi in front shocks is too stiff with Fox 3's. Going to try 70 psi but I'm prettiest sure without making them Evol's or some other costly mod that they will not meet my needs.
I told my wife after the first drive that I would probably be redoing the suspension but would wait until the season is over to do it. She then apologized for stealing my sled, I'm just happy she found a sled that works with her self proclaimed noodle arms! LOL!!!
Hope I answered your questions.

Shocks
Great update, I suspected the base LTX was plenty of shock for normal trail riding. Unfortunately for 2015 you better like black becuase if you want a sassy color scheme you will get the floats and struggle with finding setting it up.
I will likely get the 2015 LTX-DX. (although now a little concerned with the belt issues etc)

890 miles original belt. Guess I better check mine or should I say my wife's Viper.

Thanks for the review, good info. I have 700 miles on my SE and have had the rear shock revalved. Much improved, on good trails it seems really good. But when it gets roughed up the front at times just seems to jump up, it just hops over the bumps. Am at about 65psi now, thinking the floats might not be for me. Like others I got the SE against some recommendations because I wanted the color, looks like that's the case again for 2015.

Well I know your not talking to me, but since my sled is in the shop I'll just jump n and say belt issues is a big thing! And it is causing a lot of dilemma. Read my post....

I only bought the dual springs---no shocks. I would bottom out the front with old springs now mater how much preload I put inTestMaster said:STAIN said:I put Hygear dual springs on the front and rode 190 miles yesterday. Did you get the compression adjustable standard or the more expensive compression and rebound adjustable model?

color
Good point, I don't mind the all black but was not a fan of the red/white combo on the LTX-DX

What did you do for valving specs? More or less compression and rebound?

I don't know the exact specs but I know he reduced rebound control quite a bit and I think just a bit of reduction in compression. Still a little stiff when on slow woods trails but good at higher speeds. It was done by Monster performance in Schuylerville, NY. He has a website, could tell you more than me.

Stain, So you now have stock shocks with Hygear springs? How are they working out and roughly how much was the springs setup. Can you give me some idea of the good and bad? Trying to figure out what to do with my Floats, they don't seem to be giving me the ride I want.
Thanks

I'm going to be sending my shocks to Ian at monster performance as well just waiting until the end of the season which may be coming soon for us. He is also going to be building my dual rate front shocks, seems like a great guy to deal with and very knowledgable with how the suspensions need to be setup
