Front VS Rear mount Turbo Sled showdown at ShootOut Dec 7th

I think there is a big difference between trail riding in the east and west, most have found that you need to run some race fuel in the west if you want the motor to last. I think thats most likely due to the way we ride, deep powger all day climbing hills with the throttle wide open heat soaking the motor. you can not ride a groomed trail all day with the throttle wide open with boost, not and live through it. so weather we are running 8 lbs of boost or 20 lbs. alittle race fuel is needed. I have seen many motors go down out here on 8lbs. at 10,000 ft. trying to run pump fuel all the time. so to us a trail sled runs race fuel and most of them have nitrous as will, especially if you go to a shoot out. if you don,t have nitrous you may as will stay home, that may be why the rear mounts perform as will as the front mounts out west when set up properly. we don,t have one groomed trail in the entire state.

Snowy1 and Hammer, I have to agree with you, then.

Here in NY I don't ride in anything like what you decribed out west. I guess that would constitute running some sort of "insurance" fuel to protect your investment!

Here in the east, it is acceleration bursts from corner to corner on groomed trails, or blasts across long lakes and fields.

I don't think I would be on the boost for extended periods of time under conditions like in the mountains.

Thanks for bringing my attention to this detail... :rocks:

Eagle Bay - Big Moose lake, 4th lake, or?, Maybe another month till the ice is ready, we could round up my 05 RX1 MPI SC, SPEED has an FI MPI SC, and AJ just completed a CPR on his FI sled, (all trail sleds) that would be a good start. I can make it, it wouldn't take much arm twisting for the other two. My money is on AJ :flag:

Millstreet, I think we could do that. We take a few trips to Big Moose Yamaha, maybe we could stay for the weekend and hook up with you guys. I am sure I could talk with Full Power Performance into providing some Rear Mount sleds then.

How about some trail riding, not just "Lakeracer" runs? Top speed is great, but curious about rideability and response on real trails too.

Don't want to compare Lakeracers to Trail Mods...

I just got done doing a CPR turbo with three head gaskets, running 270 plus HP. I ride up in Old Forge with Millstreet from time to time, Be glad to let you take it for a run down BIg Moose or 4th lake, so you can give her a feel out. I would like to meet justin from FPP. I hear he is doing great things with them rear mounts. Jim @dynotech was telling me about him, all good things. I am in for a ride to, I know my old man will be in with his SC attak as well, My brother has a Mach Z big bore and a 100 hp shot of N2O for more fun. Just let me or MillStreet know when you want to come up.
Afterward Glenmore for cocktails of our choice!!!!!!!!

i would love to meet all you guys up there. I have a house on first lake and can meet you anywhere up there.i have an alpine front mount apex which is currentley at Ted jannety's for some minor modifications.Mbarryracing you are also more than welcome to take my sled for a rip so you can feel for yourself how good a boosted sled feels.

aj, millstreet, turbo mark

Definitely take you up on that. I know that Justin is friends with Jack and the guys at Big Moose Yamaha, does work for them, and we will be making some trips there. He had mentioned that he'd like to take some sleds up to the bay for a weekend to do extactly what you just mentioned.
Feel free to call him at the shop, maybe plan a weekend.

I have seen you up by Big moose yamaha, there is no mistaking that CR tunnel. Very nice by the way, we will have to get all the boosted sled in old forge together and go riding on weekend. Lets see what the snow looks like after New years and plan a weekend.

i agree with mike and ted i have all ready ran both type of systems front is the only way to go, first off the best motorcycle turbo shops in usa and canada only build front systems two if we where land speed racing hitting the 1st trap @ the mile marker rear may be fine got a mile to get rid of all the lag terry

Funny... I just got late breaking news that the Full Power Performance rear mount trail turbo sled officially had the fastest ET in the Trail Mod class at the Shootout, beat the D&D F12 twin pipe by tenths. Wasn't the fastest MPH, but got there quicker didn't it... No boost / 2-step tricks, either.

So what lag ???

HAHA, i dont think front mount/rear mount discussions will ever die. They are only as good as the person tunning it can make it.
