Fuel pump relay freeze up


I got a new trial relay from my dealer. The outer housing is red. There was a December 2013 date code on it.

Going to northern Ontario and Quebec this week. Supposed to be cold there, so we see if there are any issues.
 
I also had code 43 pop up on my nytro once last year when it was -30 waited a few min's and started. I recently replaced it with the updated fuse, however what puzzle's me is I here everone on this site talking about taking spare fuse with you in case you have to change on the trail. But not sure if everyone agrees with me...It's not a easy task I found it very hard to get at even having to remove a few items to get at it....
 
Same thing last week for me too, 08 nytro .....-38 and like coop, found it a PITA to remove and swap with the fan relay. Stuff gets kinda stiff when its that cold. Generater and a hairdrier saved the day, as did a couple HotHands packs. Im thinking about relocating them to a drier and more convenient location where I can get at them and or where my cold hands fit.
The polaris relay and the red yammy relay intrigues me........keep us posted please. Thanks for the posts on this.
 
Yup. Same issue for my Nytro this weekend in the U.P. with the so called updated relay. Quick tip to get you running if you are on a trip without a hair dryer or you dont feel like tearing it apart. Grab the hotel ice bucket and fill it with the hottest water possible, Look through your right side hood vent with a flashlight and locate the 3rd relay back from the front. Pour the water through the vent onto the relay to warm it up. Keep checking display by turning key to on without starting until code 43 goes away then fire it up. Worked for me had to do it both mornings then good the rest of the day. Going to relocate the relay and check with dealer to see if there is another updated relay or try the Polaris one. Happend 2 years ago, replaced the relay and again this last weekend. Both times the conditions were following sleds in extreme snow dust and cold overnight temperatures.

I relocated my relays to the left side of the sled up by the radiator shroud, its tight but it reaches, just have to route the wire different and add some rubber hose where it may rub. Havent had any problems since and our temps are atleast - 30c around here. Oh yeah used original bracket just had to bend it to fit.

I have the "updated" fuel pump relay in my machine - got it in the first season after I was left stranded at my ice hut. I was just speaking with Yamaha Canada because it froze up again this past weekend (along with my starter relay). I have a 2010 Nytro XTX and the original ones are stamped with a "8FP-01" and the updated one is marked with a "8HG-00". They confirmed that this was the most recent one - released September 2011. That being said - I called to complain as I'm supposed to buy another one of these failing parts on my nickel this time and I was told that they are working on another one because they've been failing so frequently as Yamatario said (but they are a limited release). Honestly Yamaha, you just told me that they are failing so you're trying a new design, but in the mean time I'm supposed to purchase another one of these "proven to fail" relays at full cost to me? It was absolutely great to be the laughing stock of my group this past weekend starting my Nytro with a hair dryer each morning. My dealership doesn't even have any in stock as they are going through so many of them now that we're into the colder part of the season.
 
yamaha has poor customer service imo

Mine did the exact same thing but I had no lights then couple minutes later they came on mine is a 12 xtx and I had it fixed once already.

Ever since i covered it up with a sponge to keep it warmer and the frost off it...IT Has Worked EVERY SINGLE TIME.....Saw a week of real cold temps sitting outside over night at -44 Wind Chill, for around 50 cents and a couple of tie wraps what do you have to lose :sled1:

The red one is the 3rd version. Was tested by Yamaha to something like 60 below. I had the problem on my 2011 XTX. Dealer told me I had the updated relay (the 2nd version), but due the persistent problem, Yamaha had developed the 3rd version. It is red.
 
At least now we will have cat relays that work
