Garrett oil issue

I just finished my Rear mount build on my -06 Apex and fired her up yesterday. Everything seemed fine on idle but the second i increased the rpm the turbo started smoking and oil was running out of the exhaust. When i made the feed line restrictor i only had a 1.3mm drill ( 0.051" ) but is it really that sensitive that i need to go down to 0.03 hole to make it work?

The return pump is currently an electrical, i have made a mechanical one to but havent tried it yet.

Under the turbo i made a tank that connects to the crankcase breather and the other line goes to the pump and drains to the small fitting on the stator cover.

Have anyone experiensed similar problems? And what did you do to solve the problem? Turbo is a 2860 rs

That sounds like your not draining the oil away fast enough.
Did you verify that your oil scavenge pump is indeed returning the oil? Any small restriction in the drain from the turbo (kink, pinched line, too small of a line, etc) will result in pushing oil... even more critical on a rear mount being so far away.
Way to check is with the engine off, remove and the return line from the stator cover and put it into a can or jar. Remove the oil feed line from the top of the turbo so you can drizzle oil into it with a squirt can. Turn the key on to run the oil return pump,make sure it's even running with the key on... then see how much oil it's pulling out of the turbo by feeding it oil at the turbo.


Connecting that catch tank into the crankcase breather might be introducing a small positive pressure, too...

Thanks! I'll try that, the pump is powered by a relay who activates by the 12v for the headlights. I have a light indicator that tells me the pump has power, i ran the pump externally when i first bought it and it looked like it could pump the amount the turbo needs without any problems. I was hoping you would tell me my inlet restrictor was too big

I'll try some changes tomorrow.

Your oil restrictor orifice size is too large. .035" is the size you want for a Garrett ball bearing turbo. The proper fitting can be purchased through www.turboaddictionparts.com

If you have a breather in the turbo oil return reservoir it seems to me the pump could have the opportunity to pull air versus oil. Air will always win the race to the pump under suction over the oil. I would try disconnecting the breather from your tank under the turbo and also make sure the fitting in the stator cover is large enough for the aerated oil to have NO restriction. (.375" minimum)

You are also not going to want to run that pump relay off the headlights, run it off the brown wire from the ignition switch so that when the key is on (even not running) that the pump runs. This is so that you can run the pump after the engine shuts off to ensure you pull the oil out that will bleed off from the engine after shutdown.

Ok i think i solved the problem.

I made a ventilated tank and connected the catchtank and crankcase breather. Then i made a new restrictor with a 0.8mm hole ( 0,039" ) and this looked like it solved the problem. I went for the first testride yesterday and it did´nt push any oil.

The only problem i experienced was the weighs in the clutch.
