Just curious if anyone has had some decent miles on a gates belt yet? I'm looking for a softer belt for my viper. Having good performance with with the 8jp so there is no sense in me switching to the 8dn, just looking for a little better grip and want to get ride of the belt dust that keeps showing up

I was thinking the same thing. The ultimax xs is not available yet, I found it worked better on my nytro, more tack than the oem belt. IMO

Should have one tomorrow , but the guy at thunder products tells me they are better than the ultimax belts , so I'm going to run it !

I've never run aftermarket belts on my yamahas. Always had great luck with the stock 8dn belts. Put one on my viper and there wasn't enough adjustment on the secondary to bring the belt up to where it needed to be so that's out of the question for me. Between me and the old man, we are getting 4500+ miles out of the yamaha belts and I'm sure the 8jp will last a long time too but I'd sacrifice some life to get better performance

gates
I have new gates as a backup. With my over reving I am going to put it on for my weekend ride. Just the feel of it I think it will grip the sides better. I will post Sunday night if I still hit rev limiter.

On our 2 Rages the clutches got so hot doing trail work ( low speed , stop and start, pulling a sleigh ) they would burn your fingers. Even carried couple paint stir sticks with 400 grit paper stapled on to deglaze during the day. Put a Ultimax 3 on and problem solved. Then got an Ultimax Pro for other sled, upgrade from the 3. It worked very good also. The OD on the Pro is 45 ?/?. Had to change the washers 0.05mm. The Pro is just a much thicker belt giving a lot more contact, ID is likely same as 8DN.
I know you guys are looking at a different application, but still gives more grip.
If I could have got a Pro or Gates for a spare when I picked up my Viper I would never have even considered the 8JP.

I never run stock Yamaha belt on my nytro , always ran the ultimax xs805 and worked awesome , since they don't make one right now I asked a few guys and the all said the gates belts work great , so at this time that's the only aftermarket option !
