I was out riding, nothing hard actually moved to the back of the pack. Then coming up a slight hill my sled started grinding horibly bad then 2 loud clunks and the engine locked up only took 2 seconds. I figured instanly that it couldnt be a belt, but i took off the cover and there was a big crack in the crankcase cover and oil was running out. Unfortunatly this happened right before christmas so it took till now before yamaha got back to the dealer. thank god for the 3 year waranty they are fully covering it. Come to find out this same thing happened to my friend, so out of the 4 phazers in our group 2 have had bad gears, and one was totaled out in 128 miles. the gear on the crank was completely stripped and broke, breaking the crankcase. Just talked to the dealer yesterday and yamaha is sending an engine this week, so hopefully its back together soon. Ill post the pics i got at the dealer tomaro, or when i get time.

well, Im pretty sure it does. here are some pics. The little broken gear is on the crank and drives the big gear that goes to the primary. I think that reduces, but Ive been wrong before. The sled is an 07 mountain lite with 1250 miles, I bought it with 1009 miles. I dont know what my finger is doing, I think its covering a crack, the biggest crack is in the cover where the gear jammed into. Can see about 1/3 of the gear broke. The mechanic explained it to me that some phazers got gears that fit tooo tight, then this happens, so its just unfortunate bad luck if this happens.

Spinning 12000 rpms it gotta have a gear reduction, no clutch can survive spinning at that rpms. Well the pics tell it all, glad to hear the warranty covers it. Hope you'll be up and running ASAP.

Was riding it jsut like normal, nothing abnormally hard for a snowmobile, especially a ditchbanging boondocking sled.

No botls were loose, the mechanic said that some gear tolerances were toooo close from the factory, and this is the result. I just have the best luck at the worst things. :o|

Funny thing is that in general its not a really common problem I dont think, but the 4 07 phazers that are and were in our riding group, 2 had identical failures close in milage. The other 2, my brother totaled his out at 100 some miles, so well never know, and the other has about same miles as mine, so if its going, itll go here shortly....
