Glad I didn't buy a Ski Doo

I am on my second motor in my 600 e-tec Renegade. So far the 10 motor is holding up, but the season is not over yet.

What was wrong with yours? My buddy wants them to replace the whole engine.

Don't believe everything you read on the net... Guys are putting turbos on the 1200 and beating everything out there and the motors are not giving any troubles. Then again I keep hearing about Nytro dropping rods at around 4500-5000miles.. they all break at some point or another.

My buddie has a 09 1200 gade, since day one it has overheated. They first told him it was because he cut 1 inch off of his snow flap so it didn't get hung up in reverse. They said it effected the cooling on the heat exchanger........ok boys keep dishing out the BS. This fall he had the computer re-flashed and a updated thermostat installed under warranty, that didnt do anything for it, every 5 miles it would overheat. Took it back and they flushed the coolent and did a leak down test, got it back and before it left the garage it had a puddle of coolent under it (600 miles on sled) took it back again and it sat at the dealership for a month, they had multiple parts on backorder. Sled was stripped down to almost nothing, when they losened the motor mount it cracked the case and the had to put in a new case. They ended up installing the radiator kit that Doo now offers as a " accesory" for free and so far so good but man what a crock of sh!t it was to get anything done right and took half a season to get it fixed. He has now filled a lawsuit for lost time and expences. I guess at least it didnt cost anything out of pocket to get it fixed.

I guess that is what I am getting at with this post is how can a mfg or dealer for that matter get away with selling a new sled and then 1100 miles it doesn't work and they want to take a month to fix it. I understand there are issues or lemons but when you have lemonade something is wrong.

The dealer should offer a replacement sled in the period when your own sled is for repair. But guess most dealers can't do this... should be the mfg responsibility if the sled is in for warranty fix for weeks.

Most car dealers offer you a rental car if the repair takes too long time...

Its kind of a shame that dealers, mfg's aren't stocking parts. Snowmobile season is so damn short that if something breaks, they better have a way to get it quick. If something broke on my new sled and they couldn't fix it for a month, it would be the last time with that MFG.

I have heard Skidoo doesn't do well with replacement parts. I ride with a guy who has one of their ATV's. It's a very nice quad, but when he broke something, he was down for weeks at a time waiting for the dealer to get the parts. Seem's to be par for the course with skidoo.

When i hit a deer with my sled and took off the front Aarm, yamaha paid overnight delivery to my dealer to get me back on the trail. Can't ask for much better than that.

No idea what was wrong with mine....it seized up solid and the front of the cab was about to melt like wax. Yes there was plenty of coolant and snow on the lake.

Like I said before, if it's got tires, tits or tracks, it's gonna give you trouble.
I'm having a great season on my Etec, more fun to ride than my Attak was. However, I will be buying an extended warranty (as I did w/my Attak).

Last year three guys here bought three brand new 800 summits. within the first month one guy twisted off the driveshaft. Throughout the first 5 months two tracks completely obliterated, tunnels folded up around to the seat like a curled dogs tail, wire harness completely chaffed off, more jackshafts and crank shafts went, and an inside coil went. after the first season one guys motor blew. This year three guys from St.John's came over here to do some riding and each had a new ski-doo (not sure what they were exactly) first day of riding one caught on fire and burned so they towed him back and went and got a rental for him. Second or third day another guy lost his motor so the only guy who never had a problem started to tow him out, part ways out he blew his motor also so the guy with the rental had to tow both of them out. They planned for a five day trip, it only lasted three days and they al went home with technically ruined sleds; all brand new sleds don't forget.

Buddy has a 2009 600 E-tec that only has 1100 miles on it and a head bolt came loose on it and now the head is warped and a valve sensor went out on it. He is done for the season because they are on backorder for 3 weeks. I guess those engines aren't as good as advertised if the parts are on backorder that means they must have lots of problems or they just have shitty service. Either way I am glad I bought two yamaha's. :yam:
I was at my dealer today getting some stuff for my Rhino and asked them about the new Doo 800 etec (They sell all brands). They said it was freaking unbeleivable. I then asked what they thought the relaibilty would be and they said in the 2 years of the 600 etec they had yet to have an engine problem. This was straight from the mouth of the service manager.

My dealer says the same, ever since the 2008 XP, they have not seen any DOO issues, like they did in the past...

And they fieldtested the upcoming 800 e-tec? The 2008 800R is kind of a problem isnt it? The belt problem is still there in every machine. I have a friend who blown tree engines last year so there is problems with the Rotax 800. I dont know anything about the upcoming 800 e-tec... it has lots to prove... I hope that it will not be anything like the 1000 SDI.

Sounds like a bunch of idiot mechanics working for a stupid dealer....

I hope the 800 Etech comes out shinning because I really like that the Renegade Backcountry version and Yamaha really has nothing to compete with that model as far as I'm concerned..Problem is it's going to be $13000+ for the DOO also...
