Well I'm going with an Apex my question is,
Are there any years or models that should be avoided? I'm looking at an 06 attack tomorrow.
What do I look for it has 11,000 Km (7000 Mi) on it.
This is the first year is that correct, any issues with the fuel injection?
Thanks

Check the rear suspension arms for cracks (you almost have to pull the rear skid to get a good look) I would also take a real good look at the rails...my brother had problems on his 07 Attack (arms)and 06 Apex (rails wore down because hyfax were left on too long) . The first thing I would do was to put Ulmers X wheel kit on to solve the hyfax wear problem.

For the amount of miles on it, You might want get Ulmers Front End Bushing kit, and get the rear skid Beef up kit from HalfBaked, new bushing in the rear skid also.

Check the A-arms for a lot of play, have them run the sled and cover the exhaust to check for leaks( if the sled keeps running it has a leak). Check the oil tank for for leaking on the bottom. look for cracks in the exhaust will be hard to see with the skid in.
6000 miles is where I got my 07 Attak. There are so many thing that MAY need attention if previous owner just neglected, that a couple thousand dollars is easy to spend fast on maintainance. The skid may develop cracks, but fixed with beef up kit. Hifax issues may develop which require larger wheels, or drop down brackets. Exhaust donuts may be shot. Frt end bushings, skid bushings, and str bushings may be shot...all have upgrade versions available.hand warmers may need yamaheaters to be warm. track may be getting bad. All driveline bearing may need attention. Driveshafts are known to break at that milage. You might consider a rear cooler if riding in less than ideal snow. Many don't like factory skiis. The list goes on. Don't get me wrong, I love my attak, it is the best sled that I have ever owned.....but when people talk about yamaha reliabilty, they are talking about the engine. The rest of the sled is no better, or maybe even worse than some of the other brands(I came from a polaris background). My piont is that 6000 mi or 7000 mi seems to be a big point where a lot of maintanance is required, if not previosly done. I will have $2500 in maintainance by the end of the summer, but then I think that I will be in pretty good shape for another 6000 or 7000 miles. Do some searching on here. Every year newer, they were improved, but then again every year newer has a higher sale price----enjoy

Yeah, like other people have said, 6000 miles is really where you want to start really checking the sled over for potential problems. If you could find a sled with less miles it would be better because you'd have time to enjoy the sled, fall in love with it like so many of us have and THEN you'd see that the little maintenance things that you have to do over the course of the Yammi's loooong life are very much worth the trouble.
In your case, if you're going to start off your 4-stroke career with a sled with 6000 miles on it, you'll just have to take our word in terms of it being worth the trouble.
Look at it this way, in what other sled would you have people saying, "6000 miles? You should probably check the chassis for wear here and there" ? With a two stroke you'd have people saying, "6000 miles? Are you kidding? That's time for a new sled...Or a new engine" It's all about perspective with these sleds. You may need to address certain "minor" problem areas every now and then but you'll never have to worry about the thing blowing up and leaving you stranded.

when buying a 2 stroke you have to look at all suspension parts and think if the engine going to blow up on the first ride out of the year.the little things are easy to fix.
Check your speedo and jackshaft bearings on the secondary side. Pry off the seals and repack them full of grease.

Had a look at the machine today, Nice clean unit, all wheels have been changed to new style wheels, new ice ripper track, new slides, looked the rear skid over close for cracks and found none, has simmons flex skies with new carbides, front suspension arms seem tight, GTYR clicker shocks, jack shaft bearing changed last year, and the drive shaft bearing he changes every year as a precaution ( speed sensor damage ) new belt and good spare, clutches are in good shape no wear on sheaves.
Sled is maintained by dealer, kept in spot less garage.
Seems good to me.

Price really depends on location. But this time of the year you should be able to get an Apex with 7k miles on it for between 4-5 jmho I picked up my Apex GT 4k miles back in FEB for $4200 and I just yesterday picked up an 08 Nytro with 987 miles for $5700.

If you can I would wait a couple weeks, you never know you could fine a 08 for less.
