Well boys,

I give up. Too much time and money into my MPI Apex. Way too many issues for only 1700 kms and 3 years of part time use. Awesome sled when it ran and couldn't be touched on the hills but 3 days of hard riding just about kills me and I'm a big guy in good shape. When I first got into the boost game I really thought I could just spend the initial money and time getting the sled dialed in and just ride it. But no, something always comes up, even with good maintenance.

So I thank everyone for their constant help and insight. This site has any info that a guy could need for the Yammies. And to all that are riding them, good luck to you and enjoy. Hopefully my situation is just a rarity.

The final few straws for me was my fuel pump relay freezing up.(Not a boost issue I realize). And my SC is starting to sound rough now. Not to mention I go through sliders like some guys go through underwear! And there is a whole host of issues that never seem to be solved. I just can't trust this sled when I'm in the backcountry anymore. It also didn't help that I got to try out the new Cat M8's in the hills. I now own a 2011 HCR. Thanks again!!!

haha

I am ready to give it up everyother day! I just know that I have not gotten the most of my sled and I have to many people telling me that I can't quit when I have come this far. Either way with that being said I rode a 2011 pro for 250 miles in island park a week and a half ago, bone stock and I loved it. THough I found myself craving more horsepower, and thinking about boost. I don't think i would have loved a ski doo xp as much as the pro though. Man I tell you a sled that handles that good is so easy to ride. If I had 180 hp with no hiccups at elevation it would be amazing.

I'm in the same boat, the maint is killing me, always something most of which is not related to the SC but things a SC gets you into. Its a handful on the trails and I can never use all the power, it just makes me harder on the sled, coming out of a corner I pick up speed so fast even being used to I am constantly stabbing the brakes.

I love the pull of this thing but my ears are now sensitive to every noise I hear and wonder is it ice in the tunnel or is something about to break.

The weight of the thing is starting to wear me out as well.

The last two trips were not nearly as much fun as last year simply because the sled is no longer gas it and forget its more like gas it and check this, that, and the other thing before you leave.

I still will say its very reliable compared to any other sled with 250hp but maybe just more then I need.

I too am a bit too addicted to give up so we'll see what I come up with for next year.

Sold my SC RX 1 and Apex GT this year and bought an 2011 Apex SE.

I never had an issue with the MPI stage 1 other than I cracked one pully.

Too much time maintaining my two sleds and my wife's. Also a pain switching sleds around every week in the trailer.

More time riding, less time screwing around.

I may baby charge the SE in a year or so if it is maintenance free with all the bugs out by then.

sounds like u guys need turbos not superchargers i know everytime i get on a 2stroke they just don't go like like an apex at 17lbs or even stay in the same zip code and they can't can't go anywhere when the snow is deep unless they are running boost. that sucks that u can't trust your sled everything has its issues but with impulse and boost it and alittle wrenching u can have a rocket

I have to say the MCX guys are the ones that just ride around here.

After several years in particular the Apex with MCX boost seems the turn

key turbo sled . I have run a RX1 Lightning pro for 4 seasons now with no

problems except a exhaust manifold gasket after 3 seasons.

There is more wear on the skid and steering bushings , but that is to be

expected . Once a year do all the bearings and bushings and go.

That said I have run a stock power 2008 Apex just light weight stuff.

And ride it more and more, the big difference is that we all have a good

time when riding stock power sleds every hill is a competition and we ride

more harder and longer -- not just he stock guys sitting watching turbos

high-mark .

There is definitely no other experience like a 4 stroke Yammy on boost.

It really hurts to pull the plug. Every year I kept telling myself..."OK, I'll just buy this or that or spent more $ on this and it will be good to go finally!" Haha just can't do it anymore.

And you are right powder muncher, the stock sleds are a lot of fun and have come a long way. There was really nothing I had the balls to climb on my Apex that the 800 guys couldn't. I just got up the hill a whole lot faster!

Thats not it at all, actually the SC and the motor are the only things I can rely on, its the chassis, suspension, driveline, steering, etc that wears so much faster. I expected a little but not this much. I should clarify that I like to do off season maint and I usually spend around 15-20 hrs in the off season. This year the in season maint started and I have spent around 7 hours, so it may be relative were not talking weeks or anything but just more then I would like.

I'm not giving up just adjusting...when the thing is dialed and running perfect I cannot stop grinning...

Me too...going to buy a M-8 162..the HCR I tried had a 154..and the M-8 with the 162 made the difference..here the places we ride are tight..not like out west..so the 2-smoke works better.because you can slow down and go inbetween the trees..my sled sinks when you do that..but when we get into the more open and hill climbing..yes my boosted sled rocks..but more often it would be better to ride a stinky sled here..so my son is getting a 162 M-8..just dont tell him his daddy is on it...lol..I buy it..he borrows it..I use it..lol..atleast thats what I m telling my wife.

boost need a complete setup, not engine power alone.

Need proper suspension, proper clutchs, proper fuel.. then it will rock.

weight reduction is part of the setup in a mountain sled... stock they are WAY WAY WAY too heavy...

power is nothing with no traction...

haha, yeah last year I had a vector that was virtually stock other than the turbo and my riding buddies labeled it the mankiller. You could make it do what you wanted but at the end of the day you were twice as tired as everyone else.

Definately need weight reduction.

starting to re think taking my nitrous setup off. that is the last thing I need to worry about is more maintenance. the season is short enough.

I thought the same thing when i first boosted my attak but after the first month of tinkering with the sled i knew then that it wasnt a sled i was gonna use everyday so i ended up getting another sled and now i just use the attak when i feel the urge for a little extra power lol and use the apex as my everyday sled.
