Local dealers mechanic stopped at the warmup shelter with the new 800 e-tec, had 450 miles on it. Some of the guys took a spin. Trail out of the shelter was straight, hard and flat for 3/4 mile. Couple guys said they seen 116 mph on the speedo. For what it is worth.

I am sure they did especially if their gauges are as accurate as ours, but then again I have seen 126MPH on a very long and strait road. I would love to know what the GPS number was, but for now I will continue to tell my friends it was 126.

I was at the Hayward300 this weekend in Hayward WI, and the seinor sales manager for Ski Doo (in the southern Wi, Northern Il. was there.) He was telling everyone that the 800 Etec would hit 116 and it dyno tuned at 163.5HP. So if the sales manager tells everyone that test rode the etec aren't all these test riders naturally going to tell everyone it will do 116 reguardless of what it did or didn't do on their test ride. I can tell you exactly what I thought of the 800 etec and a 1200 4tec on the test rides. I started on the 800 for about 4 miles. These trails were extremely soft and slushy with ice on the bottom. I held the throttle down as long as I could and unless I stood up and pulled back on the bars those skis were planted to the ground. On the straight stretch with the 800 which was about 1/2 mile long through a field I could only get 96 out of the 800 but that is a short run with many ski doo guys with us and I ran out of flat. That sled had more in it but i just didn't have the room to find it. We also ran throught he twisties with trees and such and and I though the 800 was really hard to drive super aggressivly through them. To be honest I about dumped it 2-3 times. I would come into a corner hot and pin the flipper out of the corner and there wouldn't be no tractions and the #*$&@ end would swing around on me. Studs would have definitly cured that problem though. We didn't really have any other seld than the 1200 4tec to run with these so it was hard to get a comparison. I know my buddy and I which were testing these were giving that sled everything it could handle. I think the bottom line in comparing these is they are going to be damn close to an Apex for riding. I think that will have as much to do with the sleds set up and the driver as much as anything. The Apex pulls damn hard all the way through the rev range whereas the etec didn't come alive until 5000 or so and reving out at 8200. I still prefer my Apex but I could see where one of these 800 etecs would be nice.
As for the 1200 4tec. I was not impressed at all. I know for a fact my Apex would walk that to the park and back. That sled was one of the ski doo reps personal sleds he was letting people demo. He told me it was dialed in and would easily take an apex. I had that sled pinned across a small flat approximatly 3/4 mile long and all I could get was 99 mph. Now maybe that was the conditions again but this sled was studded and I had it reved out for way to long to not break three digits. The 4tec is definitly something I would not buy now but the 800 is very intriguing. I wouldn't change it for my apex but I bet if I was driving anything else it would seem like a fricken rocket!

so basically ski doo released some 2011 sleds early and they go good, more hp. now lets wait for next winter when it will be fair to pit them against the 2011 apex cause we know it will be a fair fight then with the extra hp they will have.
