Great site guys, could use a little help. Tried this on the attak/ Apex site and was refered to here. I'm thinking of buying a GPS (Garmin nuvi 500) for my sled as this one seems to be compatable w/ snowmobiles and cold weather and can also work in the truck for paved roads. Its fairly new but seems to be the way to go. Wondering if anyone has used this one and also how to mount to sled. Heard Ram Mount is the way to go but there are different type of ram mounts and I don't know if I should mount to handle bars, riser or to housing behind windshield?? Would prefer handle bars but want it down low behind windshield and not in front of speedometer.
I ride an 06 Attak and ride mostly in NH and sometimes in ME, I see that there is software for NH but not sure about ME?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have the NUVI but use a RAM mount for my 60CSX. RAM is the only way to go. Lots of pics on here of them in use. I have mine mounted on my riser so the GPS sits just above my bar pad. Don't know much about the NUVI at all. If it is a touch screen you may have trouble in the cold with it. I'm sure there will be some help along soon

I'm running a Lowrance XOG touch screen on my Apex. The screen has worked great so far, down to 0 degrees. I have it mounted on my handle bar riser and it sits below the speedo so it's not in the way. No issues when I rolled my sled either.
I have a Nuvi 500 mounted on the riser with a www.mountguys.com ram mount. The only problem I can see so far is there is no lanyard hook on the unit. .i have www.vvmapping sd card also.
It requires the micro sd card.

When I did the research about three years ago, the 60CSX had the best reception including through a dense canopy. Screen is a little small and is not a touch-screen but this is one tough unit and I use it in my car when it's not on my sled. I can easily recommend this unit for all applications.
I had no reception issues with the Nuvi 500 ~ even in dense snow covered pines.

I seen 1 velcroed to the handlebar pad on a Apex & it looked great!
He said he had it wired to the battery, but I didn't see any wires!
Where does the Nuvi 500 plug into power?
He said he had velcro in the truck too & just moved it back & forth!

The nuvi 500 comes with a 12v cig plug or you can wire it directly to the power source with a optional wire. I have had the plug jar loose a couple of times on big bumps and it kicks into battery mode.

Where does it plug into the 500 at?
I didn't see any wires & he said it was wired direct?
I loved the Velcro idea! It looked like it was factory & easy to swap to the truck too!
Maybe I would use the battery until it went dead then use the cord.
The cord charges the battery too, right?

Plugs in the backside on the lower right corner so if you velcro it it would have to be offset to fit plug. The cord also charges the battery. I was told (and I don't remember who) that the battery last 4 hours. Hope this helps.

What did you get. The 60CSX has a compass. If the GPS is made primarly for road navigation in a vehicle I can not really see a neew for the compass.
coldone if you bought the nuvi it has a compass. It has piss poor instructions but just play around with it. Actually I gave it to my 13 year old and he foun
d most of the features ~ go fiquire. If you hit the speed it gives top, average and trip speeds as well as a big compass. Also if you go to garmins website you can add different vehicles. My son found a snowmobile which pretty cool.
