I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but I sure hate when my intelligence is put in question over the proper technique and application of pumping grease into a fitting.

With the debacle last year with the fittings on my Attak and having to fix them myself with JB Weld, I just recently notice my Phazer doing the same thing. They're tack welded on opposite sides; subsequently allowing grease to spew out of the two sides not welded. Genius!

Well, I figured with the amount of money spent and considering I also bought extended warranties, I decided to let the dealership deal with fixing them. After a call to Yamaha Hdqtrs., they indicated it was designed like that and it's simply spurting out those engineered weldless sides because the shaft is already full. Brilliant!

In everything I've ever greased, when the item is full, it's usually always expelled from the bushings or bearings or opposite ends from which are being greased. But, today I'm throwing all my experience aside because I learned that it's really supposed to ooze out the opposite sides of the welds on the fitting itself. Gosh, I just love learning new things.

Yes, I realize this is a small item of concern, but I don't like be told in so many words that I'm an idiot. I guess it's off to the hardware store for some JB; I'll do it myself.

i haven't looked at the fittings yet, but didn't know about this. I find it interesting that my Rev calls for a greasing every 800 km (500 MI) but the phazer only calls for it every 4000 km (2500 MI). I can't wait to get my shop manual next week for my mountain lite. I'm anxious to read it.

LMAO You know I always thought the grease coming out of the bushings of what you are greasing was the correct way of greasing things also. I have heard many many times on this site the statement such as. "Now we know more than the engineers at Yamaha". Well in this instance I can say absolutely 100% we are and I might add they have had two years to correct this mistake. Instead they turn a blind eye and pretend it is not a problem. When in fact they are there just to look good to the untrained eye at sales time.

I have a Phazer FX and my Dad has a Phazer GT, and my brother has an 06 Appex................. THEY ALL HAD BOGUS zerk fittings on the rear shaft. My brother and dad both used JB weld, and I am trying a clear appoxy as recommended by yamaha. My dealer is sick of me complaining, so they ordered a new shaft. I agree what is the deal. JD tractors have zerk fitting right? Well we should just be happy they put grease fitting on the 07 phazer, unlike the 05 RX-1 where there are NONE!!!

My rear shaft leaks grease around the fitting too! I was thinking the zerk was plugged - it just oozes around the end of the grease gun & never out of the sides of the shaft. All the other zerks seem fine.

If you grease the skid in your Phaser every 4000 clicks it'll be a worn out clunky POS by 10 K.

You better look at your 3 year warranty terms. I used to be a warranty manager for a yamaha dealership. They are going to tell you that suspension bushings and bearings and shafts are all wear items. So in 3 years if you grease every 2500 miles, you are going to be paying for those 3 tubes of $7 grease about 50 times over. The bushing kit for my RX-1 was something crazy like $225. And I actually grease my skid every 300 miles or less. At 4000 miles that skid had worn all of the bushings to the point of beginning to wear the shafts. AND I GREASED THAT SKI EVERY 300 MILES OR LESS!!!! You make the decision, but I garantee Yamaha will not pay for the lack of grease........................ Just my 2 cents.

My sled is still at the shop where they chose not to fix it. As soon as I pick it up and do the repair myself, I'll shoot a couple photos.
