Does the RX1 family have grease fittings A) secondary shaft behind the secondary? B) on the drive shaft below, below the secondary? Have these bearings been a problem?
Dan

Yes these bearings have isues. I checked my two none greaseable bearings and both are no good with only 2100 miles. I am adding these to the list of warranty items I'm going to try to get repaired in yhe fall once asphalt season is over.

drive axle bearing

Here's a pic of my drive axle bearing :( .... 2400 miles :(

wish it was greasable  guess i will just pick out the seal every 500miles and add some lube...

Have any changes been made on the 04 RX-1's ?

I 'heard' that the jackshaft bearing is slightly different for '04 (something to do with the way it locks onto the axle I believe) but thats it

Back in the days of Kawasaki sleds, we would grease these bearings with a grease suringe. It worked real good. We ruined bearing every 1500 miles or so. This method of greasing allowed us to run a full year or 5000 plus miles on the bearings. If your interested I will ask my buddy, the best Kawasaki sled guy around, the particulars.

Our group has five Rx1's with between 5400 and 6200 miles and no bearing trouble. I would still replace after a year of riding. I will report what we find.

i forgot to mention that my riding buds have 2000 miles and 4000 miles on and theres are the same as mine

note that the bearings haven't seized or piled up or anything like that

I just sold a 99 700 V-Max and it had 8300 miles on it and never had any issues with these bearings! I wonder if they use a similar bearing? I rode that sled from new. I would think the RX-1 would be at least as durable

How hard is it to get in there to grease that bearing?

BR

its not too difficult.... just remove side panel, speedo pickup, speedo gear, and cover plate.... (the secondary is off in the photo but it isn't absolutely necessary)

Last week put a new track on my RX-1 mountain to go with the Wahl Bros anti ratchet drivers. While I had the drive shaft out I also replaced that bearing. Just wanted to do it while it was out. I have 2300 mile on my Rx-1 and to bearing looked like it would have lasted another 2300 miles but a new one was just $34.00 so I replaced it.

You can get a hollow needle to put in the end of your grease gun. Just pop the seal off with a sharp pick, then stick the needle between the balls, and fill it up. You can do the same thing with suspension wheels. They take a beating.

at my work we call them a NEEDLE GREASER!!

I have used em for years on boggy wheel bearing and ball joints etc...

work very well , just remember not to pierce the seel , slip it under it!!
