The manual calls for grease on the fixed sheave spline that the helix slides on. I have read some people putting their clutches back together dry. Which is best?
Thanks!

They are talking about the spline that the secondary clutch is mounted on. Do not put grease on any Yamaha clutches everything is self lubricating. The manual calls for grease on the fixed sheave spline that the helix slides on. Yes no reason for the grease factory put in there. It just becomes dry and doesnt lube anything. Make sure when working on stock secondary to always replace the clip holding it together.

if you put in grease, you end up cleaning it out later...

You are correct that they do recomend greasing the jackshaft as shown in picture one from my manual. The second picture from my manual looks to me as them showing grease should be on the non moveable sheave spline as well. Either way, i will put it back together dry as that seems to be the consensus. Just wanted to show you guys what i was seeing. Thanks. They are talking about the spline that the secondary clutch is mounted on. Do not put grease on any Yamaha clutches everything is self lubricating.

I use an oh-so-thin smear on the shaft splines. For the sheaves shaft, I use dry graphite powder. It's incredibly slippery and no mess.
