GT skid bottoming out bad!

I have a '07 Phazer GT and I have 400 miles on my sled. When I got the sled the skid was set up on a medium setting for the torsion springs. I was bottoming non stop, so I then changed the torsion spring setting to the hardest setting. This seemed to help a little but it still bottoms out very very easy. I am only 145lbs., so I find this very odd. Other then that I have had no problems with the sled and I love the way it feels threw smooth trails. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the GT. Thanks

they're available at dealers...its just a plastic roller that the torsion springs get leverage on and give a stiffer spring rate near the bottom to stop from bottoming...some guys are also using venture blocks too

Yeah, over preloading springs is just a band-aid, but the rollers sound like a good cheap improvement.
Those preload blocks from the Venture look real scary though.

I bet you you got it backwards.

I had same issue... it felt like my sled was bottoming out but.... it wasnt!

I found that the stock M setting was so hard at first it felt like the sled was bottoming on every mogul it was hurting my back, I am 220 with gear, easily.

I switched to S setting on the trail and it was an amazing difference, really nice absorbant suspension like it should have been. (I have a thread on this a few months old somewhere)

I felt like this for about 200-300 km and then it did actually start to bottom out. I switched back to M and its perfect. If the trails get really rough I put it on H (which BTW becareful using the Yamaha provided wrench because it will EAT you thumb) other wise its perfect.

Lately I've just be leaving it on H because some of the trails are hard. But... just beware that when the suspension hasn't broken in yet, its stupid hard. The difference between a new GT on M and mine on M is incredible. Really made a difference when the suspension broke in.

My Dad is having the same issue on his GT. I am not bottoming when riding the same trails with my FX at a slightly higher speed, and we both weigh about 190 lbs. I am going to try his machine this weekend to see what it is like. The manual shows that the springs are set soft as standard, so I think we are going to set them all to medium to keep the same balance and see how that goes.

Last year when i rode the fx and gt back to back the gt bottomed out like crazy on me and the fx I don't think ever did the fx is made for more aggressive riding.I think it might have stiffer springs.

It looks like only the fx came with good shocks and now there are reports of the gyt's blowing up- and not just seals. People have been saying that there were no usable parts left to the shocks(both rears)!! Yami should hear from all of us. For sure they should replace the gyt's, but not sure what they can do for the rest of us, but maybe something. The shocks/springs on my mtn lite were crap before the sled had a mile on it. When i first brought it home, the rear end sagged so bad backing down the tilt that the track was running over the snow flap while fully bottomed. One poor soul with a GT bent his tunnel this way. I have not seen shocks as cheap/weak as my mtn lite's on motorcycles since at least the mid 80's. I have not ridden in days now because we don't have much fresh, the roads/trails are super choppy and bumpy and you're either going stupid slow or crunching your spine/ankles bottoming on every little stupid thing. I have really expensive suspension on order that should make a new sled out of it but its a lot of money.

I am 210lbs, and I left my suspension on M for the first 325 miles, and then I switched it to H. It rides incredibly smooth.
I love this sled!! :yam: :4STroke:

My buddy who is real big(too big for a Phazer)took his F/X to the dealer and they converted springs from a 2-up for the rear.He is very happy now.No more bottoming out.
