Has Yamaha addressed Ice Buildup on the Nytro

I love everything about the new Nytro, but there hasn't been much discussion about ice buildup in the rear suspension. If this sled has the same style (or lack there of) heat exchangers in the tunnel area as the Phazer , then what was changed to reduce ice buildup on the rear suspension components? You now have a wider track throwing more snow on an already cold or frozen skid. I rode a Phazer earlier this year that was loaded up with ice and frozen snow and it was the most unenjoyable ride I have ever taken on a Yamaha. If we all had heated garages to park our sleds in this wouldn't be a problem. But I for one do not so I just wonder has this problem been addressed or do I need to look for a way to thaw this thing out after every ride? I know they have added the plastic side panels to the tunnel but I for one don't think this will keep the ice from building up on the rails ,shocks and w-arms. Let me know what you think because I have the 40th anniversary. RTX ordered.

The majority of the ice build up issue on the Phazer was from the open tunnel at the rear to cool the exhaust. Many people here closed in the tunnel with great results. Little to no buildup. Since the Nytro does not have this feature, there will be little problem. I for one am glad they got rid of this on the Nytro. There is a small hole at the front of the tunnel for the exhast, but this shouldn't be too much of a problem.
 
The one I test rode had snow and ice in the tunnel .Around the exaust was clear but the rest had some buildup. I have a rtx orderd also so I hope its not to bad
 
You may be able to seal those areas to keep ice from runing down the outside of tunnel .Have not figered out how to keep ice buildup from underside of tunnel.
 
I wouldn't remove those. They also protect the track from the exhaust pipes under the tunnel. I think you could damage either if the protectors are removed.
 
I have studied the new nytro and I think the ice build up "problems" as seen on the phazer will be the same or worse on this model... Completely stupid design from yamaha and I find it strange that they dont have taken notice of this from the phazer. Snow will hit the muffler then melt and water spread all over and inside tunnel causing huge ice buld up. The weight of the ice build up on the phazer (30-50lbs) under cold/powder driving conditions really sucks and I cant see anything that tells me that this wont happend on the nytro. In fact, I think the problems will be bigger with the tunnel protectors design because there is more stuff for the ice to hang on to. Just my toughts...

I was thinking of trading my fx for this new nytro but after seeing this open tunnel design I'l keep my phazer and wait for the 2009 model new designed and lighter apex with more hp than todays. (have this from a yamaha guy working high up in the yamaha scandinavia system)

Really hope that they dont do this stupid open tunnel thing on the new apex too...
 
Speculation... that all you have on this. Give the sled a chance before you toss your thought into the equation. Also sniperviper, this open tunnel exhaust has been around since the 4 strokes started so some ice build up on the suspension and under tunnel area in NOT new and was never a real problem until the Phazer.
 
Wasnt ment to be a harsh smart #*$&@.. I know very well about exhaust systems on yamaha 4 strokes and also about the ice build up on previous models but they are nowere near the phazer on this issue.

As I said, I have studied the new nytro and I can see the same thing happen on this as on the phazer. I see that you agree that the ice build up was a problem with the phazer so I'm just wondering if you can give me some reasons why this not will become a problem on the nytro. It has exactly the same tunnel/exhaust constructions as on the phazer. Only changes on the nytro/08phazer is that the hole in tunnel is "build in"

Snow will hit the muffler on this sleds too, melt and spread ontop/inside tunnel. Unless yamaha have constructed a "cold" muffler on the 08 models.

Problems with the 07phazers wasnt that snow sprayed up and out of the hole. It was because the snow hit the muffler and melted. When this melts and the water mixes with powder you will have a huge ice/snow build up inside tunnel. And its like glued to the backframe so its not just to lift sled up in the air, drop it and give it some hits to make the ice to slip. On all other yamaha 4stroke models you have rear heat exhangers but this ones misses completely on the phazer/nytro.

I hope I am wrong about this and next year on this time we will know for shure.

Bzzt wrong about what? If I dont remember wrong you where the only one that didnt have a problems with the ice build up on the phazer and still wont admit that this was a problem.

For all you other guys, take the time to read about the ice build up problems on the phazer forum. If I'm stupid and wrong it seems like there is a lot of us... You can also take a look on "yellowknife's" sticky thread on the mountain light forum and read what he think about this design. (This guy have used his sled and if i dont remember wrong he have over 5000km on it this winter) Other seems to have used theyr sled a couple of times in the back yard and maybe two times around theyr house...

It seems that some of you guys cant take it when anyone have something negative to tell about yamaha sleds.

Instead of beeing such a hot shot smart #*$&@ why cant you "Yamahnator" tell us all the positive things about this design?

As earlier said, we will know for shure in a year from now so why dont we leave this until then and see who was right or wrong. I didnt ment to start a war here but I was only telling what I think about this issue and what I have experienced with my fx that have the same rear frame/exhaust design as the new nytro.
 
Take a deep breath guys and relax.
Keep the phazer problems in the phazer section please.
There is no problem to address yet on the nytro no one has hasd a chance to have a problem.Let's not speculate here lets just wait and see what happen's instead of getting all riled up.

Sniper, your views are just that, speculation. I can study as well a complete sled and there are to many hidden design issue and variables that you have no idea about. Do you actually think that Yamaha did not look into the issues that haunted the Phazer...The ice build up on the Phazer was showing at the 1st initial test ride of the pre-productions and was noted but I did not see anything like you mention on this new Nytro on any of the sleds we drove.

So dont get everyone all wound up on nothing or speculation....unless you can prove it, I would suggest bighting your lip until the season unfolds.
