The cpr turbo should be here in about a week , sled is torn down,.................with it this far torn down it would be a good time to install a thicker head gasket .How many turbo owners out did or didn't do the head gasket ? what is the p.s.i on level 1 and level 2 w/ the simons turbo?.I can get avgas if necessary .Where do I get the thick head gasket ? Any body running more than 12 psi of boost without the head gasket? :yam:

I am hoping to get a turbo this year and have thought the same thing. My conclusion was to put the gasket in. If not, I would have to run 50/50 race fuel and that would end up costing more in the long run. I have read and would be comfortably running 10-12 psi w/premium gas and the thicker head gasket. with the work of putting the turbo in and having the sled tore down to this level, I would definately put the gasket in. It would or should only cost the price of the gasket. Just my $.02.

Put the thicker Cometic gasket (.067") in. You can either get it from Cometic directly or call Freddie at ECP, or Prince George Yamaha. The part number is H1684SP8067. You will want to change the exhaust cam timing slightly too. Get somebody that has the MCxpress installation instructions to fax that to you, or call PG Yamaha.

Why not just go with CPR recommendations. Don't go into that motor unless you have to. It's like your father told you - - -"Don't fix it unless it's broken ".

The Cometic Gasket is 57/1000 thick and yes you should put it in. I would not run 12 psi boost on 93 octane gas even with it.
I believe the CPR setup is based on running 8 psi and at that level you don't need the thicker gasket. But if you think you will be happy only running 8#'s, think again. The difference between 8 & 12 psi is major. I ran the thicker gasket and it doesn't slow you down at all. Any added safety margin is well worth it. If you are going to trail ride, you will not always have access to high octane gas.
Just do it!

7.5 std setting doesn't require a thicker head gasket mod. we have run 10 psi for short runs..1000 ft- 1/4 mile. works fine. if you feel you want more boost, put in a head gasket. we have one we reccomend for our kit, we also have low compression pistons, big valve ported heads, etc, etc. thats why we made the base kit to be as simple and fool proof as possible, some people only want to go so far, otherwise why would you ever stop, we have kits that will break 400 hp if thats were you want to be. but then that won't be enough. lol jeff

Jeff, if you have the thicker head gasket , please send it w/ my order .
If not give me the address of where to get it , no sense in having it this far tore down without doing it . ;)!

first you have to pm me, we have aton of turbos on order, and i have no idea who you are. lol thanks jeff

I didn't think you'd have more than one turbo kit going to Palmer Ak.
