lower compression is lower compression, you will still have the lag that a lower compression engine will give. the main part of going with the piston route is to have forged pistons, they can take more abuse. cast pistons are more likely to crack at high psi due to there brittle properties, as forged pistons are more permeable to heat and cylinder pressure.
imo, if your doing it yourself just get a head shim
