I noticed the upper fiberglass mate was all but gone on the upper exhaust heat shield on the "Y" pipe. The parts break down only shows the metal shield for around $65. Should I be concerned about the fiberglass missing? The lower shield looks fine. I have around 3500 miles on the sled. Is there any worry about excessive heat or fire?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Same thing happened to mine.I replaced it.Might get away with a good wrap though.

are you talking about the stuff stuck to the tank?
or maybe mine was put on wrong or not installed.
i wrapped my system in header wrap. didn't need to but when i had it apart, what the heck & i had some wrap left over.

I've been looking all around for a new upper shield P/N 8GC-14637-00-00. No luck, appears they are on backorder. I have 900 mile plus trip planned for the 20th of January. Anyone have any ideas? I have no idea how long this been running with out it. Should I be concerned? Thanks.

all the times i had mine off, i never noticed that.
you should be ok. just limit you idle time.
do you have or can get quickly any header wrap? some enough to do the shield.
heck you can get some cheap stick on stuff from summit or jegs in a few days.
i used some of this, wrapped around a glasspack that was close to the floorboards on a car.

Holy crap!!! I never should have started reading posts about this exhaust shield. Now I'm afraid this thing is going to burst into flames. I read a post that mentioned the exhaust glows red then burst the flex joints, burns the heat shield and then burns the tank. My exhaust has been glowing red since it was new...thought it was normal. Maybe I have a real problem here.
