can wire it to the dc outlet wires instead less wire and away from the heat and already fused.

Take your battery connections apart, wire brush them clean and put it back together with electrical contact paste. Loose dirty connections can cause excessive heat, especially with a prolonged heavy load, like a starter motor. The unfused circuit likely had nothing to do with your melted wires, but it should be fused incase of problems closer to the electrical load.
