I don't know a whole lot about engines so I need someone's help. I picked up my sled today from the dealer after they installed studs on it. Went out in about 34 degreee weather and rode a great 50 miles or so. On the way home it felt like the sled was only running on one cyclider. RPM's were up around 7000 but only going 25 mph. Could the plugs be fouled already? Only 380 miles on the sled. Before it happened we were running hard but then came to a stop to help a guy who went off into a ditch. Went down a very steep hill using the engine breaking a lot to slow down and poof no more power. No warning lights came on and I limped her back to the trailer going around 30 mph. Close enough to home so I did not attempt to change the plugs. Before I take back to the dealer just looking for some ideas on what it could be. Again, I am not the most mechanically inclined rider.

Just a thought here, but if you were in soft, loose snow the sled will appear to run that way. I was running in this wet, heavy snow that fell from this storm the other day and my sled was acting the same way. Once I hit an area that I had traction, the sled really took off. ( As normal ) Were you running on hard packed trails or loose snow?

I was running in hard wet packed snow and I have felt the loss of power in powder before...this was not the same.....something was missing.....no power what so ever and the engine was pushing high rpms but had no power.

I also burned a ton of gas on the way home.....could I have been running on two cylinders? What next?

What you desribe is exactly what my Attak was doing over the weekend. When I did get out of the wet heavy snow, the sled ran like a raped ape.
I hope you figure this one out.

Check track tension.

With engine braking, the sled may not have downshifted properly. It's quite possible that your belt is down in the secondary clutch. If that's the case, the sled will act like it's always starting in a higher gear which translates to sluggish.
Just a thought.

Jon,
That is exactly what it felt like, almost like it would not shift as the rpm's increased. I am taking to dealer on friday for first oil change so I will have them look into that, thanks
