HELP no oil pressure

Just got done looking all over for any arctic sled problems and can't find anything. What's different on our 4 stroke then there's?

Are you guys getting prime back by plugging the top tube on the oil case? I've only seen pictures of the tank so I'm not sure what line you guys are plugging.

This really is not acceptable. Hopefully there is a fix soon for this. Mine is going to be upside down all the time. My nytro was and never a problem.

Been a very busy year. I do not have the viper yet. It's in the works. Trying to get one to build a mtx out of it with a 190. Should know today if it's a go or not.

Where have you been? Haha. I guess I am just not on the forums as much. Had to lay low for a while. Was getting way to many emails and PMs to keep up with on grizzly and rhino builds. Been fun though.

This was a common problem on the Apex and could happen on the Nytro. I have seen it happen on an oil change. Just tip sled about 45% to the left and start it if you are in the field. See instructions below from MPI for additional info. But YES this could and did happen on Nytro.

If you preformed and oil service (recommended), fill the engine’s dry sump oil tank with the recommended
Yamaha oil. Initially use only 1 quart. The Nytro is nutritiously difficult to prime. The OEM system has 2 oil
pumps. The 1st is called a scavenge pump which pulls oil from the motor and return it to the oil tank. THIS
PUMP IS ALWAYS PRIMED AND WILL BE PUMPING IMMEDIATELY ON ENGINE STARTUP. The 2nd
pump is the pressure pump for the motor. It is slow to prime. During the time between initial engine startup
and the 2nd pump priming you could overflow the oil tank if more than 1 quart is initially added. (It makes
quite a mess!)
91. During initial start up, the motor may shut off after several seconds and display a code 30. This means low
oil pressure. You must turn the key off before attempting a restart. This is normal once or twice. Upon the
2nd startup you might rev up the motor a few times (after you have verified supercharger oil flow), this
helps the motor’s pressure oil pump prime. If you get more than 3 motor shutdowns for code 30, contact
your dealer.

Never happened on my nytro , but good info !
So to sum it up in a nut shell it's really nothing to worry about , may never happen to other sleds a .

It's still a bit alarming to me. Two cases in the first weekend? Never once heard of it on a nytro. Mine is upside down as much as it is on its feet when out in the mountains. Never had a priming issue.

Yes this could happen to a nytro after a oil change. However, out of the hundreds if not thousands of oil changes I have done I have never had one not prime up almost immediately once running.

I will be in touch with yamaha today to see what is going on and what can be done because this simply won't cut it. Yes a tether will solve it or at least help but doesn't mean it's right, these type of issues can lead to bigger problems.

Yes , the bigger problem is what got me worried .
I haven't pick my sled up yet , and my sleds are upside down , on there sides a lot to so I would like to know if there's a fix ( that I don't have to pay for ) to fix it

Is there a fix so it doesn't happen ?
What is the difference between the nytro oil tank and the cat tank to cause this to happen?

Will the rollover valve be the ticket?

This is something that I'm looking in to. We may be able to use the ROV to prime the pump, I'll know more after I do some testing.

Had it happen once when one of my Nytro's was on its side upside down at about a 45% angle for about 15 minutes (don't ask..lol)

Nope, and really I have never had problems with my nytro. I wonder if it has to do with the way the engine is mounted.

I hate to speculate but could the tank be to low in relation to the engine? The whole purpose of a tank along with larger oil capacity is so you dont have to totally rely on a check ball which prevent oil from moving out from either the engine or tank and overfilling one or the other. The tank allows the two to self level if the checkball leaks. This was a big issue on anything made with oil in frame or tank up high since it would seep through the checkvalve and go into engine Hydrolocking it. Harleys,Honda XR's and my Cannondales are known for it. This would be opposite problem the oil would leave the motor and overfill the tank. All we can do at this point is make darn sure the oil level is right to the top mark.

Wow, this really sucks and I never had the issue with either my Vector or Nytro. I rolled both of them a few times and both ran for a very brief time upside down. I'd let them sit for a couple minutes before restarting them so maybe that helped? I also never experienced anything weird on either one when I changed the oil.

I hate to say it, but after my Nytro experience which was a 1st year sled I didn't want to take a chance on the Viper. My Vector was also a first year model but I bought it as a left over so the issues were already known and the dealer had done updates. I simply cannot understand how they allow things like this out the door? I know they were up here testing the preproduction models last spring so they should have experienced it. I hope they offer fixes for things much quicker than they did with my Nytro.

In the mean while, I'd use a tether all the time.
