My phazer has gotten really hard to start, starting fluid doesn't help, but eventually after a long time of cranking it starts up like nothing is wrong and it runs fine.

It happens that it backfires while crabkicr

Over what period of time has it got hard too start ... the last several years or a couple weeks or since you woke it up this season? How cold is it? What is your battery condition? Fresh gas? Is the fuel pump running when you turn the key on?

We need a little more data here John. Is crabkicr Finnish for idling?

It started in the end of last season, I thought it was because I put the 95 octane fuel instead of premium 98 but it should at least start with starting fluid even if the fuel is not good enough?. Fuel pump turns on, it is inside an warm workshop.
Sorry misspelled cranking,
After I stop cranking it sometimes backfires.

The battery should have been good but it's gotten a lil bit tired from all the cranking.
And also I get the error code 1(throttle position error) from time to time for a few seconds when battery is getting weak but I guess it has to do with battery getting weak

Was your 07's ECU been replaced with the updated one? How cold is it when trying to start? There is a documented issue with the '07 and starting below -20c. In less cold, it does take a little longer. I had mine updated and it helped a lot. In normal temps, it used to take about 4 revolutions to start. After the update, 2.

Here's the bulletin about it.

He says it is inside a warm shop.Should still follow up on the ecu.

The machine has a knock detection/protection system with a indicator. The manual calls for premium but if it gets a lower grade it adjusts and doesn't even tell you it has done so. You now have 76hp, not 80. If the gas is even worse it limits rpm and the indicator comes on. KCS

Update
Tried again today got it to start again after alot of cranking, it idled good for 10min then it got to some lower rpms, I tried to rev it a little bit and noticed that sometimes it mis ignite or what to call it. ATM Ive pulled everything off to get to the engine, I saw some oil moisture and noticed that the throttle bodies had been somewhat loose so I retighted them but with no improvements with the starting. it's wierd it just cranks and cranks and not a sign of life and when I wait a short period it can suddenly fire up almost as it should. And seems to be running fine.
About the ECU, is it possible to manually reset it or do I have to take it to a dealer

It is not an ECU reset but a new ECU but since your machine is in a heated space that is for another day.

What were the initial idle speeds and what did they drop to? I'd go through all of the connectors. This engine will not fire if there is low oil pressure so maybe a sensor is not connected properly/intermittently.

Ok. I did go through most of the connectors I could see with the airbox and side panels removed. Im going to call a guy I know that knows phazers pretty good and see if he knows what may be wrong, he have earlier taken it completely apart

Good luck, keep us posted as to what happens, that is how we all learn.

Welcome to TotallyYamaha, post a picture of some Yamahas in Finland when you get her going.

Are the 2 small rubber vacuum hoses connected to the sensors under/behind the Airbox? Very easy to miss when reinstalling the Airbox and the ECU references those for ignition firing during startup.

Yes at least on the airbox side

what doe the sled have for milage? might be time for a valve set.

Maim, at what mileage would that be of concern.

well yamaha recomends a set at 25000 mi but from what i have seen on here, some sleds could use one after 11-12000 mi. usually hard starting is an indicator of them needing adjustment.

probably going to have to check my 11 in the off season as it is in the range now.

Thanks Maim, mine has a ways to go but hard starting/no start is just the worst experience and I'd have mine looked at early if I started having issues. Coincidentally my 50hp Yamaha outboard was in spec at 2000hrs. Seems every engine is different.
