I installed a clutch kit and works great. I think I need to put in some spacers. The belt sits exactly 1.5 mm below the edge. Is it possible to stretch the belt while trying to get it off the clutch? I know it was seated a little lower before but it seams like its even more so now after I removed the belt and put it back on. I have 900 miles on this belt and never made any clutch adjustments with it after the break in period.
Service Manual States
Standard Height ( .5mm above - 1.5 mm below) Anything less or more than this needs spacers.
More than .5mm (-0.02 in) below the edge = add spacers
Part number 90201-061H1 = .05 mm (.02 in)
Part number 90201-06037 = 1.0 mm (.04 in)
For these spacers do I have to buy them from Yamaha or can I get them at a local store like Lowe's or Walmart? if so what size do I get?

check your width of your belt too....it might be warn to where you want to replace.
play with shims to get belt back to top...not sure if you can find something aftermarket to fit though.

Actually, the service manual states, the v-belt should be positioned from 1.5 mm above the edge of the secondary sheave to -0.5 mm below the edge. If the v-belt position reaches 1.5 mm below the edge, a spacer should be added to each of the three adjusting bolts. You can get spacers or flat washers from Lowe's or Home Depot.

just use the yamaha ones because other washers are to soft and sometime not the same thickness

thanks guys. Ill go to a local dealer for the shims and also buy another belt just to be safe.
belts are not all the right length..set the correct belt tension or deflection..for best results.

There are a lot of parmaters that have to work together to be right. Belt width needs to be between 1.28" and 1.36". Then to set the belt deflection, Yamaha says adjust belt height in the Secondary. To adjust belt height, you take the belt out of the Primary and lay it on/in the Secondary. Then, measure for the -.5 mm to 1.5 mm in relationship to the top of the Secondary. You do not have to press the belt in the Secondary very hard.
This is a crappy way to adjust Belt Defelction. It assumes that the Center-to-Center is correct. So, ... when adjusting belt height, if adding shims does not seem to help, then you either have bad belt width (i.e. Belt width <> 32.4 mm to 34.5 mm (1.28" to 1.36", )) a stretched belt (i.e. Belt circumferance <> 1,129 to 1,137 mm (44.4 to 44.8 in,)) or the center-to-center (i.e. C to C <> 268.5 mm) is whacky.

thanks Todd that helps me out a lot. I'll check everything this weekend while I work on it. Going to clean the carbs. Now I need to figure out what to do with the bad gas that's ben in the tank since the end of last season. I put sea foam in it but I really don't want to put it into my car. Probably about 5 gallons in there.

If you had used Stable, the gas would have been O.K. Even with Seafoam, you are probably still O.K.
