I recently took my sled to a snowmobile shop for service and repair. Heres what was replaced.

Hyfax
5 Bogie Wheels
Exhaust Donuts
Exhaust Gasket
Oil and Filter
Belt

I was charged for 10 hours of labor at $74 an hour. Do you think this is reasonable? Does anyone know what Yamaha's Exhaust Donuts replacement scheduled time is?

I believe when I had mine done which was under warranty they said it paid 3.5 or 4 hours. The dealer you used took there time for sure....

Did you have an estimate of repairs??? That seems like a lot. Both money and hours...Everyone I have talked to says about a 3 hour job to do the doughnuts and that is the most time comsuming thing you described. That means you paid over $1000 to have all that stuff done???

Yeah $740 bucks in labor plus parts. Not a happy camper. If I got some evidence that says yamaha certified mechanic charges 4 hours for exhaust donuts then I' m going to contest this bill. I really think maybe 6 hours is reasonable for everything but 10 Hours! It may of taking this mechanic 10 hours because he hasn't done it before but dont' stick it to the owner.

Was this service done at a Yamaha dealer ? If not then you won't have much of a case. Some shops specialize in other brands so this may have been a learning process for them, at your expense.

I would get a couple of quotes from dealers or other shops. If they come in way lower than your invoice then take copies to the place you had your work done and ask them wtf they were doing for the other 4hrs :)

That's not good. Although around here $74.00 per hr isn't bad, usually their times are faster then i could do it (and should be) but guys like that are just bad for our sport. Tell him if he argues he can get a few more opinions on TY!

I hope he at least gave you a kiss when he was done. Exaust doughnuts are no more than 3 hours add another .5 for the gasket. Slides can be done in a half hour or so. Boggies maybe another half. Yamaha has SRT sheets for each job. Ask your dealer to show you what Yamaha would pay them to do this job. Ill bet it not even close to 10 hours.

3-4 hours for someone who has never done them before(me) even with one seized/stripped exhaust hanger bolt, removed with zip gun. Of course I had the benefit of TY expertise (great directions)...Unless any major sripped, broken ect bolts I would think 6 hrs for an expierienced tech would be reasonable. Maybe you are paying for some punks apprenticeship... I know I have recently! Good luck! :letsnow:

only go to the dealer for warrenty and parts..if you cant find them elsewhere,,my guy does my sled for 40 an hour..the motors are bulet proof..so the other things can be done by a non cirtified yamaha mechanic.my wife and I had exhaust donuts done on warrenty..3-4 hours...72 $ an hour

I did all that plus fixed a wiring problem on my trailer outside in my driveway last year in less than 4 hours. So my question is did they send that guy out on a parts run while still punched in working on you sled

I'd say that is a little excessive. Don't go attacking the dealership, ask them to show you the time breakdown. I would expect around 5-6 hrs.

Seems way too long. I did virtually everything you mentioned plus consumed a few beers while doing it all for the first time and it took about 10hrs. Someone doing this at a dealership should be able to do it in 1/2 the time it took me, I would think.
