Does anyone ride out of this area and have an opinion as to hotels and
food. I have ridden through Houlton once but never stayed there. I always
seem to ride east and north. :-o

One of the best places to ride mid week. I say mid week because on the weekends there are a lot of people. Timber lodge I think its call is a great place.

Houlton is pretty good.

East [New Brunswick] & North [The County] are somewhat better IMHO .

Are you thinking of Houghton, MI? He is in Maine and your in WI so not sure if you take trips during the week 1500 miles away? Maybe you lived there before? :drink:

I ride in Houlton ME ... the same holds true either way... mid week is always better as there is less traffic to deal with... trails are in better shape 9 times outta 10. The railroad bed to Presque Isle is fun.... if you catch them after a groomer... hang on... hard as you wanna go....Lots of club trails are just as good and less traveled. Some good loops to do.. you can do 300+ miles a day if your up for it. Depends on the snow conditions as always... but generally speaking, the farther north you go ... the better they get.

This is a KILLER place to stay...its about 40 minute drive from Houlton but it is VERY reasonable and they feed you to the point of having to be rolled out of the lodge. I own some land next to it and stay there all the time. The trails are excellent and some of the best Maine riding is in the loop! http://www.katahdinlodge.com/

Yes,great riding,i have a house in patten maine, just west of houlton. You can only ride north, south and west from there, unless you buy reg. for canada, but all trails are very good,a lot of people only ride north,up the r.r. bed toward caribou, because they think those trails are soo wide and smooth, they are,but remember more people that think that way,the more folks that go in that direction, the worse the trails become,we ride south alot, and the trails stay flat for a couple days, down there, compare that to them only staying flat for 12 hrs. up north, and you get the picture. there is Ivey's motel, next to Irven, and Shiretown motel acrossed the road,up the road on RT.1 there are a couple more, smaller motels, and than there is downtown, has some more,so there is plenty of motels, restraunts, and bars in houlton, and its right at the end of our turnpike. Cheers

I have ridden through both Houlton's ME and MI and trust me ME is less busy for sure! Houlton, ME is the home of the Famous BETHEVIPER( Scott) and hook up with him for all the best INFO on the area. Also, Hotels right in town close to trails but a must is a ride to Linneus home of Grammys country kitchen, Home of the 3 lb woopie pie!

Grammys country in is moving to houlton. Even more reason to come to houlton.

Great area(need snow right now)

Kahtahdin lodge is a great place to stay as well, a little to the west of houlton, about 20min out. They have snow before we do and a little after. Kahtahdin lodge even has an in house Yamaha tech/cook/cleaning lady. High John!
