I'm trying to set my sled up for grass drags next Sat. and It's overreving to the point that it feels like it quits pulling. I 'm at 20# boost on a 03 rx1mtn with 8bu-00 weights that have 4.5gr rivets in both holes and 21-39 gear ratio. I was hoping to run 23# boost but don't know if it's possible with these weights. What are people doing to add weight to these cam arms or do I need to get something different ? Right now I'm at 11300 rpm's and would like to get it to 10200 so I can up the boost a little if I need to, Ken.

Get more aggressive profile ramps dude!

Or get heavier ramps to begin with!

If too much weight (like more than 75gram per ramp) go with 4 ramp to be safe!

Your weights are way too light at 57-58 grams fully loaded with rivets. A set of 65 gram supertips would help a lot, they have lots of room for adjustment (42 grams can be added to each weight arm). What primary spring do you have in? You may try one with a very low end # like 35/101 to lower shift rpms. I had to add my supertips close to 90 grams with a WWW primary spring to get rpms down to 10200 at 14 lbs of boost.

the 8bu-00 will work fine you just need to weld more wieght on them, I have ran 25 lbs with mine, the 8bu-00 are an aggressive wieght. I am running 62 grams at 10,000 ft. at you elevation your will have to add alittle more, if you have a mig welder just start spot welding them until you get the wieght you want, be sure and weld the wieght in the same spot on all three arms. I like most of the wieght towards the heel.

I'm running the stock 45 degree helix with whatever spring it came with in 03. I have a 51-43 helix that I can try but I don't want to build up a lot of clutch heat and with the 45 it stays relatively cool. I'll try adding some weight by welding to them but wonder if the heat will cause the cam arms to become brittle. Also shouldn't the extra weight be added to the tip to drop the peak rpm's or since it's turboed does it work differentlythan what I've always thought, Ken?

I have been welding yamaha wieghts for 10 years, never had a problem with getting brittle,I put wieght the whole leght of the wieght just alittle more towards the pin, you won,t be able to put all the wieght you need in one spot you will have to spread it out, you need more helix, I am running a stait 47, some of the guys especially in canada are running a 51, me and freak both tried the 51 and could not get enough belt pressure once it pulled the belt into the bottom of the secondary, I think they may be getting them cut differently than what we had because we could not get it to work. 47 on 100 with silver spring works for me, but I am at 10,000 ft. I have tried the 51/43 it doesn,t work any better than the 47,

Clutching

I just purchased a kit from Alpine for an apex 12-15 lbs. They said it was a 51 helix. Diff primary and secondary springs and adjustable weights that go up to 80 grams. Assuming that they are supertips, not sure though. Will let you know how it works out. BTW this will be snow only, no grass/pavement for me.

after looking at my wieghts I did weld most of the wieght on the end, the 8bu,s already have alot of wieght toward the pin, I have tried so mant different wieghts some times its hard to keep track.

I took it out for a pull tonight with the welded weights and it's woking a lot better. I upped them to 63.5 grams and put in an old Arctic Cat green spring that I've used on everything that I needed a good holeshot on and it came out at 3800 rpm , shot out of the hole faster than I ever expected a turbo to do and went straight to 10000 rpm's and stayed there till I let off. Now it's time to turn it up a little and get the topend up where it should be. It really sucks that race fuel costs $7 a gal but will have to pay to have fun, Ken.

You need more primary eight. I have 2 solutions for you. 60 gram heavy hitters or brand new 60 gram supertips. You can load em both up to over 80 grams which is all your gonna need. $150 shipped for either sets of weights.

i have a hot turbo CDI which pulls the rev limiter to 12999 for sale... and takes timing away at the top...

Forgive me if I'm a bit slow, but doesn't our power curve still fall off after around 10,000? If that is the case, how would bumping the rev limiter to 13k help??
