@Yamadog - to clarify - you do have several thousand dollars in aftermarket shocks under your viper right? Reading thru this thread, it would have lead me to believe your sled rides as good as an rMotion in stock form.
@CooperT My experience has been different, on an '15 ltx se, and it rode incredibly rough compared to both the rMotion and the polarix axys. I've sent the shocks out at this point to get revalved and have made some major improvements, but my feeling is it will still fall a little short of the rmotion. I haven't had a chance to ride with the rMotion sleds in our group again so I can't make any head to head comparisons of the revalved shocks. Edit: the rmotion I rode was the standard renegade package (not x or xrs), so maybe that is the ticket to getting a smooth riding one? It was incredibly plush...

1. Yes I do have the Axis package in mine. I took off the floats in the front for coil overs and the rear skid shock, but feel that the main culprit has always been the rear skid shock and proper adjustement of the front skid shock which is still stock in mine.
2.I rode an X and 2 standard renegades. The X was unridable and no one in the group wanted to be stuck on it. The guy that brought it is a dealer and needed to miles on it cause its a demo and they do not get re-imbursed for them if they fall short of miles. We took everyhting out of the front skid shock and turned down the spring and rebound adjusters to "0" and it was still harsh. one guy in the group goes 285 and with everything full soft we could only get 1" of set in with him on it. I had such bad arm pump I could not hang on in the whoopties. The 2 standards were a bit different but still wanted to step out in the rear through the bad stuff one time in 2' chop at just 40 mph it got so upset it turned sideways on me and almost dumped me. You feel way out over the skis and the pivot point is between your legs and the tail wants to whip on you. On the renegade you are using more of the front suspension on them whereas the Axys is light on the skis and you are riding on the track. The XTX is more balanced between front and rear then either chasis. I think that CAT was so close on this package but just fell short in the valving and feel that if Yamaha would have stuck with the clicker packages they have on the Nytro and Apex these would have been great right out of the box.
I also own a 2013 Pro R 800 SB which I love and a 2015 Pro S 800 SB which I am learning to love and are in a different class but will not eat the big stuff like this XTX will. When I put a rookie on the XTX and I chase them with the Pro S they not only left due to the power difference but I could not go through the stuff as fast as they could.
Before the shocks the ride for the most part was the same on the XTX I just could not get it to turn.
I can honestly say there was 9 of us in the group with 1 Pro R (mine), 1 Pro S (mine), 1 viper XTX (mine), 1 2011 nytro XTX, 1 2015 Renegade X, 2 2014 Standard Renegades, 1 2003 poo XC 700, 1 2000 poo 700, and 1 98 poo 700 and the other 8 guys fought all 3 days over who was getting on the polaris R & S or the viper if I would let them.
Needless to say my sleds have a lot more miles on them than the others did for the trip. Both the 2000 and 98 poo's bit it, both having melt downs.

As a footnote I will say that the Nytro XTX was the worse sled to ride. That, too me was way worse than even the gade X. I was scared silly several times in slick corners. Even with the the fix for darting with 1 dually 8" carbide on one ski and 1 8" on the other it was way twitchy and I felt like I was at the dime store on the rocking horse pony out front in the bumps. Going hot into a corner it would push then catch so hard it would turn sideways till you cought the berm and even riding it down groomed roads standing up it was all over the place.

I did 700km in two days, trails were a little rough the first day but still road hard. Finished the trip with a little sore #*$&@. That's all. I'm in my twenty a though. Lol

I have the hand problem I have it set like it has power steering and there is no arm pump from turning it. I am only running at 9#'s (13 available) of boost it is constantly trying to throw you off the back.
Sorry, off topic! But did that shock relocation assist with the power steering feeling or you do something different?

A little of both Sting. I went both ways but on the really rough trails liked it back at the stock location. To be fair I did not play with the spring preload on the new position I wanted to try both at 0 pre load first then was back to standard location and started putting pre-load back in and found a sweet spot at 2 full turns. I will try the new location again next week and play with the pre load.

Rode all day Sunday and just leaving "work" Now. LOL

I forgot I also got rid of the simmons skis they were part of the problem on this chasis.

I bought a 2014 ltx-se and rode it all last season and found it to be a nice ride compared to my 06 apex gt that I had previously. I did find it to be stiff, had it on the softest settings and I'm over 300lbs. Fast forward to this year and I picked up a full set of shocks off of a 2014 ltx-dx over the summer and put them on. What a difference, I'm much happier now with the DX shocks and still have the looks of the blue se model. The ride is nice and plush and it soaks up the bumps on the trails. Couldn't be happier with it now, all I can say is if you are a trail rider and want it to be plush then a dx model may be a wiser choice.I'm probably going to get a "trail" viper ltx dx or se. Haven't decided if I want the floats or not. Not too worried about saving weight, looking for plush ride though.
As much as I love this SRX, I can hardly wait for next season. My body is just aching...and to think there's still 2-3months of riding left...

That's a pretty good idea! I guess I could always sell the floats and buy the dx shocks...I guess we'll see what Yamaha has to offer for 2016...I'm just basing this info off the 2015 models. Hopefully more options for 2016

Or you could just get a revalve. Those DX shocks will not take the big stuff.
