Probably going to stretch my Nytro to 136" or possibly to 144" Need feedback from guys running trails mainly with a 144" set up. Looking at a Camo track with 1.25" straight lugs. Saw it on Tracks USA. Didn't have a model name. Kinda reminds me of the old Predator/new Carve though. Thanks.

Thanks. I was looking for feedback from guys that put miles on their short track, extended to 144" and put trail miles on wth that set up. For example, what are the differences in ride quality and handling? Any loss of top speed? Gains in acceleration? Specifics like that.

I went from 121 to 136 with normal flat extensions (not the tipped up extensions) and I didn't feel any negatives. More traction for acceleration and braking and so much better off-trail.
Of course the off trail improvement probably has as much to do with the cobra track vs the ripsaw as it does the extra length. But it was a night and day difference in how much more off trail ability I had.
Seemed to handle the bumps the same and corners the same too. I would definitely do it again.
One thing that did suck...it wouldn't fit in my enclosed trailer with another sled anymore. It barely fit in by itself when I put it in diagonally

I stretched mine to a 144 with a backcountry 1.75" track last year. It works very well. You will loose some top end, but its totally worth it.
The off-trail advantages is so many.. And with my backcountry 1.75" i get a kick #*$&@ grip on any trail. I would never switch back to a short track again.
I'm running the TracksUSA tipped up extension kit.

You probably wont lose any top end unless you switch to Extroverts, if you stick with the stock drivers extending it wont really slow you down(maybe 1-2mph), the approach angle of the XTX is less than the shorty but for top speed this doesn't matter. I dont notice its a 144 on the trails as my studded doo pals dont even pull away in the icy spots and on the lake i just pull away from them. Another plus is i got stuck once last winer playing in the fluff , the others are constantly stuck.

Why do the Extroverts slow down top end? And aren't they neccessary if you go with a longer track?

I'm not sure why they slow you down. And I didn't notice any loss of top end really when I switched, it still only liked to do about 100mph. I think the loss of top end is more noticable on the xtx because the xtx has more top end to begin with cause of the different approach angle. The RTX's approach angle seems to be the limiting factor in its lower top end, so the extroverts don't effect it as much/if at all. This is just my theory. But besides, if someone is going for top speed, they shouldn't be looking to go to a longer track, bigger lug, and extrovert drivers to begin with right?
I don't think they are absolutely required if you go to a longer track, but mine ratcheted very easily as a shorty, so it will only get worse as you get more traction. I would recommend it

I'm using the original drivers on my RTX with a 144" track, and i have no problems with it.

What I can't understand is the loss of top speed with the Extroverts. After reading Avids webpage (I know it may just be advertising) they sale you are able to run your track looser which we all know therefore decreasing the rolling resistanceand increasing speed. This seems to make sense to me.

Running your track loose will free up some horsepower for low to mid range power. But once the speeds get high the track balloons out in the tunnel and it robs power to bring the track back around...lowering your top speed.
I experienced this first hand last winter. Brand new track with studs and I could get 100 mph pretty easily. After the track stretched out quite a bit, and was really loose...I was struggling to hit 90. Tightened it back up and 100mph easy again.
But I don't know why the extroverts are claimed to lower top speed if everything else is the same...? But it is said that they do.

Sleddingfarmer I see what you are saying. But there must be a fine line between having the extro's and running your track at the correct tension. Not to tight to rob horse power/speed and not to loose to Balloon at top speed. I think your new sled will have extro's stock, think the doo's have had them for a few years now. Top speed doesn't seem to be hindered on the ski-doos.
What are you plans for track tension on your new sled?

I found running the track loose with extrovert drivers (fully clipped) beat the hyfax to death on the upturned portion of the skid.
I don't buy the extrovert drivers are inherently slower argument. I would agree that a loose track is probaly going to be marginally slower though.

I think it does come with extros, but either way I've purchased Avid extros that are 2.52 pitch that I'm putting on right away, so I can run 2 ply tracks.
yeah the 800 etec is supposed to have a lot of top end, but my xrs is supposedly a little slower up top, due to the more aggressive approach angle of the suspension (kinda like the yamaha rtx). I'm considering dropping an extra gear anyways, I don't need to go 115 mph.
I'll run my track how I run all my tracks. Not super loose, but not guitar string tight either... snug is a good way of putting it. But I couldn't run the nytro track how I liked it without the extroverts. And like I said earlier, I don't think a rtx will lose any top end from the extros, but the xtx might...according to others.

Its not just the extros, its the fact to run them you have a fully clipped track with every window open, making it heavier. Adding 1lb to the track weight is like adding 10lm to the sled give or take i am too lazy to bust out the calculator for circular motion. With the extros i have loosened the track to almost half the tension as before.
