I put a clutch kit on my 03' RX and left my 05' stock. The 05 was just as quick and maybe quicker because of the mono-shocks weight transfer. In addition I didn't think my stock 03 clutching was that bad, I lightened the tip weight on my brothers stock 03 and it ran every bit as good as my 03 with the clutch kit. Also on the big end my brothers was faster than mine. :o| Ski's, Carbides, and Shocks are probably what I will fool around with. ;)! As far as studs go they're great! That's why I don't run them anymore.....The confidence you have is awsome but there will be that time when you grab the brake and your confidence is gone and your eyes are two big golf balls in the helmet. I have not damaged me or any of my sleds since I stopped running with studs. :yam:

To me, that does not say much about the clutch kit that you put in. If you did not notice much between the 03 stock and one that was clutched, then yes either the 03 are clutched that good or your clutch kit was not setup right or it is junk. Also, you say carbides are great, but that is the reason you don't have them in anymore? Are you say you are over confident with them on? If that's when you are saying, then you need to learn not to over drive the sled.

Rotax- Over driving the sled is exactly what I'm talking about.

As far as a clutch kits go I'm not going to open up a can of worms. while the seat of the pants feel might be better that does not mean it is better. 8)

normally whatever i can add will go on, with my rx-1 after putting on the ripsaw i put 144 up the middle which is what I normally did with my other sleds. This time it was to much, for me to really get the back end to slide out the way i like it there had to be a buildup of loose snow in the corner that i would aim for, that ripsaw is the best track I have tried. I did find a difference after i put BBY's clutch kit, there is also other distributors on here that also have great products, there is allot to be said for the time that these guys put into R&D! They do it for us so we don't have to waste down time figuring out the best combination.
After riding the Apex, i'm only putting either 96 or 120 studs up the middle I still haven't decided. I am also hoping that i can just modify my current clutch kit to work on the new apex, that being said by no means was I dissapointed in the way the new sleds pull. They are that impressive. So I don't know even if the kit will go in or not.

Unfortunately I think i have a........I can't leave anything stock problem, i think i'm twitching...........how long til it snows? :o| ;)!

How are the 136 's off trail? I ride the north shore of lake superior and would love to do more off trail, but with 121's I fear major league STUCK :o|

I only have 136 experience on an old 96 Doo Grand Touring 'tank' with a low lug track and TONS of weight. It was not anything to brag about in the snow.

How confident can one be with 136 inch and a quarter?

Yamadoo
The 136" x 1.25" track makes a sled very capable off-trail IMO. They will float much better and are pretty darn good in 2' of fresh. They however do not even begin to match a Mountain Sled in the Steep n' Deep. I'm hooked, I don't think that I will ever purchase any sled shorter than a 136".

Thanks bodacious,
THats what I hoped for, better in 1 to 2 feet of snow like we have here in the midwest, but certainly not a 2 inch by > 150 inches

I just want to be confident in the mid west

thanks
Yamadoo

Bodacious, you may want to consider wider ski's too. The front of my Warrior would sink until I added Simmons Flexi ski's.

Yeah, I am seriously considering the Simmons skis as well. Had a pair on an SRX 600, they did wonders, so much so that when I sold it to my father-in-law, I took the skis off and changed the color scheme on the 01 700 Doo to match the skis. Now that is messed up. Skis were silver and blue.

I am also thinking about studs for the RTX. I put 96 down the middle on the 600 SDI in the woodys pattern and I am not impressed. Thinking about the Studboy pattern. Any thoughts on this one?

Im going to stud my apex gt.. and put on some 8 inch carbides and buy a cover..

I have clutching left over from my 04 warrior if i need it in the future but for the first year i will leave it stock as im sure it will rock in box stock form..

As time goes on im more concerned about ride and handling than wether or not i can totally smoke my friends (usually not a problem anyways)

Going fast is great but being able to not crash into someone in a corner is the most important thing on the trails..

studs

Welter,

I'm with you, I have yet to ride a sled without studs that was as safe as one with studs while trail riding. I'll probably go with 120 down the middle and use the Simmons from my 05 Rx-1. All these sleds are fast enough so the little added safety seems to help year after year.

Woody's 1.325 Megabytes have been awesome for the last 3 years, I have 168 on my 04 Warrior and 5000 miles later they are in great shape!

Time to go boating!
