#1 What applies to Yamaha clutching does not necessarily apply to Cat. If you have the 60g weights already the can will not put you into rev limiter. Can and airbox mod might but I doubt it. Cat clutches effectively make your gearing higher vs Yamaha. Pay attention to whether it's a Cat or Yamaha being talked about.Could you explain this a bit? I have only a Sandale can, and no other driveline mods so far so I'm really watching this thread. Just trying to figure out if putting a can on my 7000 is opening an expensive can of worms... Will I be hitting the rev limiter every time I blast off? Am I safe to open up the airbox more, or is that going to require clutch work?

Yes, it gets a little confusing going back and forth from Yammie to Cat trying to keep track but it seems like the only real difference is the clutches and belt. Also you have referenced some issues with the secondary in your 800 Cat but I understand this doesn't apply to the 7000 clutch? I've checked the Cat forums, but this site is far superior for technical information! I may have to look into airbox mods...#1 What applies to Yamaha clutching does not necessarily apply to Cat. The 8DN that is discussed a lot for performance, is it worthy option for my sled?
800 and 7000 are same clutches. 8dn will only work on a Yamaha. There are two belts that will work on your Cat. Will have to look up the numbers but one Is $80 and other a lot more $. The expensive one lasts longer.Yes, it gets a little confusing going back and forth from Yammie to Cat trying to keep track but it seems like the only real difference is the clutches and belt. good to know..im not much on the brakes so i dont ever get it...but riding my buddies 6000 its much harsherHard on gas and hard on brake they all will do it.
Yes I agree. I think it must be the secondary spring difference between the two. Either way would think they would just go with torsional on all 4st from factory. My buddies 16 with the Team clutches doesnt do it nearly as much though and now with the auto belt deflection I bet its totally gone.good to know..im not much on the brakes so i dont ever get it...but riding my buddies 6000 its much harsher

I assume with that track you will always be racing in snow. You need right in between the 24/50 and 21/49. Dont see anything stock on Yamahas that fits the bill.
22/48 Gears will work with a 90p chain. Yamaha has never use this combination to my knowledge but it has been available on some of the Cat models. This is the gearing that I will be using this year along with the 1.75 backcountry track. My Viper originally had 21/49 gears. I was able to buy the 22/48 gear combo for less than $75 and reuse my original chain. I have a machined secondary for overdrive with the 8dn belt.

What's the part number for the 48 tooth gear?
Best guess is this one. I do not know if its compatible with our chain but I believe it would be. p/n 2602-790

I used AC Part number 1702-382 for the 22 tooth top sprocket.
I'm sitting by the pool on a cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico right now as I am typing this. All I can think about is when we are going to get enough snow to go riding. Is there something wrong with me?
