How many have changed gearing on an n/a viper/7000?

Cannondale27 , what gearing is in my vipers then . I’m thinking they have 24/50 stock in both . One is the 2015 ltx blue and orange and other is the 2016 ltx se . Both 137 with ripsaw 2 . Which gearing you recommend for 500 ft snow drag racing. Thanks for help also
Is it hooked up? If so slightly lower gearing. If not leave it stock.
Yes as far as I know. 24/50. There is a spec sheet thread in FAQ. Please add yours if you have it.

Ltx came with 24/50 gearing .
Rtx/ ltx with the 1.7 sno x track came with 21 49 gears, awesome out of the hole, but struggled past 80mph

That’s what I want to put on mine , backcountry 1.75 track . So I’ll gear it down 21/49 then . Setup for 500 ft drag racing . Thanks

Thats too low for 500ft. 300ft it would be perfect. Will top out in less than 500'. Need to stay out of overdrive to be fast.

Thanks . What would you recommend for gearing for me . It’s a 2015 ltx with spi header and sandale muffler with free airbox mod . Gonna tune it with power commander stuff . Thanks for advice also

I assume with that track you will always be racing in snow. You need right in between the 24/50 and 21/49. Dont see anything stock on Yamahas that fits the bill.

Yup . We race 500 ft snow drags . Should I gear the top down a couple teeth or what you think then . Need it to pull for 500ft . Thanks

Something we learned right away the first year, 2 identical sleds (ltx se and xf7000) except for clutches and gearing. 24/50 for the viper, 21/49 for the cat. Box stock the viper with taller gearing was quicker off the line, better mid range pull and more top end. The same sleds with the same type of clutch kits then and results were still exactly the same. Traction is your biggest friend, I'd focus my time and money on making sure the sled gets out of the hole and then let the torque do the rest..if your clutching is working well with your machine the stock gearing is perfectly fine for 500' drags.

But I’ll be putting a bigger lug track on . Figured I’d have to do some gearing change . Backcountry snocross 1.75

Could you explain this a bit? I have only a Sandale can, and no other driveline mods so far so I'm really watching this thread. Just trying to figure out if putting a can on my 7000 is opening an expensive can of worms... Will I be hitting the rev limiter every time I blast off? Am I safe to open up the airbox more, or is that going to require clutch work?
