How many have changed gearing on an n/a viper/7000?

I used AC Part number 1702-382 for the 22 tooth top sprocket.

I'm sitting by the pool on a cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico right now as I am typing this. All I can think about is when we are going to get enough snow to go riding. Is there something wrong with me?
No, your just one of us, lol:sled2:

Nope! Just be glad you got that cruise out of the way before snow flies. Perfect timing!

So, Lots of people have asked about gearing including myself on this thread. So gearing to 21/ 41 or 24/49 has anyone got any results? We all agree we are gear low at 21/49 factory and agree the sleds pull great until 85 MPH. I just did mine and left the bottom gear and did a 24T on the top plus chain. So I will post results of speed differences and low pull differences as soon as we get snow enough to try it. Looks like some of the guys have done the 21/49 but not seeing where anyone said the results. I am glad I tackled this job, I noticed I have 4 cracked chain case taps, (order the new up graded one with the thicker tabs because cat upgraded it knowing its a issue. NOT COVERED BY CAT) and when changing my gears noticed one bolt had backed out of my tension roller on the inside. It has never been apart because I bought in new. Looks like everyone should check their chain cover, common problem. I think I saved a long walk by looking at changing my gearing. LOLOL

So, any results on gear changes yet??? Speeds, pull on low end?

For me it gave me more consistency and I swear helped holeshot but most important is solved All clutch issues. I don’t need to use full shift anymore. That means no worry about spring bind, machining and I have unlimited speed potential. I did not lose any top speed but only way I gained some is from the consistency not overworking clutch gave me.

So are you running the 25/45 set up? If so you are now at 1.8 to 1 ratio. You were at 2.33 to 1 stock? (21/49) That's a bigger change then I am making. I am going from the 2.33 to one factory to the 24/49 with a ratio of 2.04 to 1. You are saying you are ok on the bottom end?(that was some of my concern) U didn't see much loss? Were is your top speed running with the 1.8 to 1 ? Mine with all factory set up (21/49) except the 60 gram weights in primary turning now at 8800 to 8900 I see 93 MPH. I don't feel I have any clutch binding. No residue, I have over 2000 miles on he belt, adjusted deflection once and still feel belt is in very good condition. It will get a new belt this year.

Yes. 25/45. Went big. I am OK on bottom but I am a trail rider. Dont go off trail much. Like I said I do better drag racing others now than before. Track spins FAST! My fastest top speed GPS and video is 107mph in packed snow. I often see about 95mph but Very Poor conditions am lucky to see 85mph. Goal is 110mph in snow. I am clutched at 9050 rpm. Good Luck!

Connondale27,
Thanks for the reply. You have been a big help posting some information on end results. Not the smallest of jobs to change gears and would like to only do it once. LOLOL Of course I had to do the cover because of broken tabs on the 2014 chain cover. I am like you I ride groomed trail 95% of the time. (but no drag racing) After reading your results I should be just about right. I didn't go as tall as you but I am only looking to gain gas mileage and triple digits on hard pack good conditions. I ride some rail beds and can be a 25 mile stretch, so would like to cruse at 80 mph to 85 at time and not be pushing it to the max. We are close here in Maine to being able to ride, Northern Maine will have a few trails open this weekend. As soon as I try it out with the 24 T and the 49T bottom gear / 2.04 to 1 ratio, I will post all the results for everyone else to see. Thanks again.

Right on. I try to be realistic.

I put the 21/41 combo in the wifes AC last year and it works nicely. She has seen 100 gps and has throttle left on groomed rail beds with me beside her. She wont push it harder but I need to finalize the clutching. Bottom end is still there just not as violent as before. Mileage went up also with her riding style.

Ok, I said when I got my gear changes I would give you all a update. I did change just the top gear. Went to a 24 top gear and left the 49 tooth on the bottom and had to change the chain also. I can say it is spot on for what I do. I was looking for more top end. Tried it on the dragged hard rail bed and I have gain 8 MPH on top end. If I lost anything on the bottom, I do not feel it. Even pushing it hard I am seeing 14.5 to 15.5 miles a gallon so dropping the RPM thru out the band helped MPG also. I lined up with a viper and pulled him from a stop to the top 4 sleds lengths. To be fair I have a cobra track and hit hooks hard, and his was a rip saw so I jumped him out of the hole but kept pulling him to the end. So I highly recommend the gear change if you are not satisfied with the top end of the viper or the xf 7000's. Like I said the 1056 Yamaha four stroke are a torque monster and I did not see a change on the bottom end pull.

I have a ltx, I been told to try gearing out of a xtx which is 21/41, mines 24-50 stock. Crazy low!

Stock viper and xf 7000 are a 21/49 that is a 2.33 ratio to 1. If you are running a 24/50 that is a 2.08 to 1. If you go to a 21/41 that will put you at 1.95 to 1. That will help your top end. I am not 2.04 to one and its where I want to be for what I do.
