Hey man, no worries, no offense taken. I dont know with 100% certainty that my 600 could beat an RX but it would be fun to find out sometime. Perhaps there will be a TY ride in Minocqua next winter and one of you guys will let me run my 600 XC aganst your RXs, Apexs and Vectors. Im sure quite a few of you can and would smoke me, but it would still be fun. I might be riding a Polaris right now, but I still wear my Yamaha jacket, helmet, gloves and pants (that goes to show you where my true loyalty is).redrx1rkt said:Sorry...just going by my experience on the lakes & trails...pro racing...I have no clue about it.
Believe me, as soon as I can afford to trade up to either an RX or Vector I will. My XC is a nice trail sled, but these Yamaha 4-strokes are in a whole different league!

I have had the same stock 600 skidoo (2003) beet my stock 2005 RX-1 ER going down the river too. Was most embarassing. He passed me. Luckilly he didn't rub it in too bad. There is no excuse for this.
I shouldn't have to tweak my 1000 to beet any 600.
I did get a little better gas millage. But not much.

CT - It's been my experience that Poos are slower than both ArcticCrap and Doos with the same cc's. However, the Liberty motors seem to hold up longer than those other two. Less performance = more durability. Just like Yammi for the most part. But Yammies hold together even when modified.

redrx1rkt, I am by no means a Poo man. I bought my 600 XC because the price was right, I wanted something better than my '90 Phazer II and SX 600Rs are VERY hard to find in Wisconsin.
If I had my way, Id be the owner of an '01 SX 600R instead of an '01 Polaris Indy 600 XC EDGE X.
I do agree with you, Polaris does tend to sacrafice a little performance but they make it up in durability. Polaris builds their sleds for the trail rider Doo and Cat build sleds for the racer wannabes. It could be said that the Polaris Pro-X is an exception to this, however.
Believe me, if I could afford a Vector GT I would trade my XC in without a second thought.

up grades
Well if you dont start up grading it will happen again yamaha sold you a great starting point but they are built to last if you want to win you have got to talk to the aftermarket people.I have seen a 13 year old kid on a stock srx run against mod sleds and just woop them more power dont mean faster sled.

mnmsnowbeast said:The little 500ss is a very quick sled and has surprising midrange speed, but the vector 05 we had when we were running this past feb. was even with the 500ss until 80 or so than the vector would pull him on top,and our fusions would pull both of them on top and should, but the 500ss is actually the old 600 at 115 hp and the vector is 118-120 but the600ho should spank both vector and 500ss on top,but all this aside i was very surprised at both the vector and 500ss we rented the 500 from uptown variety in St.agatha Me. but your rx1 no matter what year should run all of those sleds down on top end, even the fusion,if its geared and clutched..![]()
That sound funny to me.... My buddy drives a 04xc500sp and it is retardedly fast (99mph gps) he has run down 600ho ski-doo and all kinds of 700 and older 800 sleds ... beats them right off the line and they either never catch him or not till 90mph.
He raced a guy we ran into on the river with an 06 Vector GT and got his #*$&@ absolutely handed to him right off the line ... 5 or 6 sled lengths at 60mph and never caught up but managed to hold the 5 sleds or so
So I can't believe a 500ss or 600 ho beat a Vector at all ....off the line or midrange .. .that is just ridiculous.

Yamaha has been (over stating) horsepower ratings since they built their first sled, The biggest over statement was of course the infamous 92 V-Max 4 this hyper sled was supposed to be the fastest thing on snow. Dont get me wrong I had one and loved it (wish I still had it) but it took alot of tweaking to make it run, Just like my 03 RX-1 got my a$$ kicked the first year by just about everything, Not the case any more I got the old girl to run like it should have when I bought it. On the lakes I outrun my brothers Apex pretty bad, Really pissed him off, but he hasnt done anything to it yet so this proves the statement true again. TUNE TUNE TUNE

This is becasue the 2 stroke engine make power everytime the piston goes up and down. Look at professional motorcross racing. They allow 450cc 4 stroke engines to run with the 250cc 2 stroke engines.
The 4 stroke engine makes power every other time the piston goes up and down through the stroke range.
MY ECP RX1 Air Kit will help you power wise. Add the Velocity rings to it and you will experience a totally different ride.

redrx1rkt said:Mighty Warrior - Poo does indeed make an SDI 600. Their carbed 600 is the 600 H.O. I can beat those fairly easily. His sled was brand new (well, it had about 20 miles on it) when this race occurred.
Unfortunately, folks, this is legitimate. He may have done something to it, but I don't think so. My sled had about 2,000 miles on it when this happened, so break-in wasn't an issue.
No goodies on my sled...pure stock. Not even studs. He had studs, but it was a non-issue in the conditions we raced.
I have raced this guy at least 20 times and the result is always the same...Dead even off the line, even through midrange up until about 75 mph, then I pull ahead. By 100 mph, I am two sled lengths past him. I expect him to beat me off the line...but I figure I should catch him and pass him by 30 or 40 mph. But it never happens. Even if we start at 50, we are dead even until 75 mph. It's sickening.
I can beat an F6, but not by much. Maybe two sled lengths by 100 mph.
Maybe you got a Lemon, I got an 03 rx and an 07 rtx and my 03 beats 800 ho's f7's etc. Never considered racing 600's. Check clutching something's not right.
poo makes a cfi 600,but no sdi 600...doo makes the sdi 600

During the first season with my 05 RX-1 (with about 5000 miles on it at the time) I lined up with a friend on his MXZ 600 SDI (with about 5000 miles on it too). He pulled away from my RX-1 - probably about 6 sled lengths and then I started catching up. He was running 144 studs and my sled was 100% as delivered from Yamaha (no studs). We didn't try different conditions, etc. but this was on a lake with very good snow up in Northern Ontario.
The clutching on my sled wasn't very good as shipped. Engagement would slam in at 4500+ rpm and it would only pull about 9200-9500 rpm until near top speed when the rpms would slowly climb to about 10,300.
The next season I installed Ulmer's Stage 3, which runs at Yamaha's spec'd rpms (3800 engagement & 10,200 shift) and 144 gold digger. The difference was amazing. I never did line up with the 600 SDI again, but I suspect it would have been a completely different story. I did line up with an Apex ER a couple of times and my RX-1 would pull 1-2 lengths on it and stay there.
Ulmer's setup improved the performance everywhere from the nice smooth engagement to vastly improved throttle response and it pulled harder down low, mid-range and at high speeds. On top of that, if anything, the fuel economy slightly improved and the belt life was just as good.

Man this is an old post..
No way should you have been loosing to a 600.. I rode with two Xc600s and i killed them so bad it was flat out hillarious.. I could just play with them at higher speeds.. THey eventually gave up and went out and bought Cat F7s.. much faster... but still just behind me..
