i put on 1100 miles this winter on a 500ss from uptown. super little sleds i was blown away by the performance. I have never ridden a sled through the junk as fast as that thing. you could look for the most blown out trail and run down it at 70 and not have your eye balls fall out.
anyway earlier i had posted at a radar run in winslow me. i saw a trail stock 05 rx-1 and a trail stock 600 sdi run 89 in 1000 feet plowed ice both studed. one right after the other. i was surprised. so i can understand what this guy is saying. box stock you are going to be looking at smaller sleds for a long ways.

Yes you are right,i had the 03 rx1 studded stock trail carbides 144 and mine on ice (chewed bad starting ice) only went 104 best run in 1320feet on at the Smithfield Moonshiners Radar Run in Augusta on lost pond or something like that in 03,we did not have any 600 twins that day but a very good going zrt 600 hooked up run 110 and Trask motors had there 00 srx run 110 but i was in with Woodys 4-stroke class and keith beat us,his was not turboed at that time, but it had cam gears and air filters on,he ran 108 same as zr9 and f-7s,now the little 500ss ran very good we ran it with one of Garys 05 vectors it was brand new for sale, and it is the one my buddy bought off him the next week. The vector was so surprising, like the 500ss was for performance, they would run side by side until 80 than the yammi would pull ahead by 3-4 sleds and stay there..STINKFINGER said:beast...

The 500ss is actually more like 105-108 HP

Well, I feel better reading these last posts. What revster posted is believable. Another thing I have noticed is that if we punch it at the exact same time, he will pull just a notch ahead right off the bat...perhaps a just a foot or so...I always pinned that on the quicker response of his SDI fuel injection vs. the RX-1's 4 carbs. I doubt that's an issue with the '06s. I can imagine an Apex pulling away fairly easily even in the midrange from an SDI 600, and maybe even an Attak beating it off the line with the longer track.
I am going to see what I can do about getting a little more performance out of my stocks clutches this fall.

I have beaten my friend's 2002 Doo 700 repeatedly. I get him off the line and just keep pulling away from him all the way through midrange. By 100 mph, I have 5 or 6 sledlengths on him. I've warned him not be surprised if he gets his arse handed to him by a 600 Rev!
Same thing with a Poo 700. F7...that's a different story...I can stay with them as long it's a rolling start (25 + mph), and good conditions. Off the line, I am dead in the water, and I can't make up the distance.
Getting beat up a little by an F6 with some mods a month before this incident should've been a warning to me, but it was on lake with little snow and I had no studs, so I dismissed it.

You didn't tell us you had a red sled, that's the problem :ORC
The pigment in the red paint obsorbs the uv rays causing a disruption in the airflow over the hood creating a horrible drag.

Even if the HO gets the hole shot her 500ss will run it down and pass it ,an RX1 leaves both behind and doesnt look back.
Really? My 600 HO has 3000 miles on it and my buddy has a 500ss with 500 miles. I beat him everytime even if he gets me out of the hole I catch him and pass him. Both sleds are 05s stock.
Oh yea.. Its tweaked just a bit but so is my HO. Clutching is 100% stock on it. It'll even run a 600Ho down and pass if the 600HO gets a holeshot(as long as its not a huge holeshot). I had about 10 dootalk members witness it against a couple of 600Ho's including an 05 SDI. My buddys '04 600HO renegade isnt even close from a standing start or from a roll to top end. Keep in mind every manfacturer has the odd sled thats faster or slower than the rest.. to my knowledge another 500ss hasnt beat her sled either, maybe its a freak!

You guys are all concerned about speed. I'm ok with the fact that I went from having the fastest sled in my group to one that is only 95% as fast as the fastest. I'm also ok with the fact that my buddies riding 600 SDI skidoos are neck and neck with me (my RX-1 does actually beat them by a little, top speed it smokes them).
What drives me nuts is the fact that my buddies can and have been razzing me about how unreliable my Yamaha is. Not one of the guys on newer sleds had any engine failures this year - that includes 600 SDI's (2 of them), ZR500's, 800 XCR's, F7's, 1000 T-cat's, etc. None of them had any suspension failures, frozen crankcase breathers, seized steering shafts, etc. either.
My 05 RX-1 ER was broken down and out of service for over 1/2 the season. 8+ weeks due to suspension failures (most of that waiting for backordered parts) and one week worth of leaking PTO seals.
In fact my sled is still non-functional.
This is how my 05 RX-1 embarasses me.

ReX - sorry to hear about your woes...but maybe this will make you feel better...my 6000+ mile RX1 has witnessed a blown up 600 Doo in a lake race; another Doo with handwarmers that quit; ANOTHER Doo with intermittent clutch problems and the owner wouldn't go far from the hotel because of that; two or three Firecats w/ chaincases blown apart, out of commission for weeks; a Doo with less than 200 miles needing a new starter; this same Doo also had a broken speedo; and many, many more...these are all two year old or less sleds! Everytime these events occurred, I just flipped the key, heard the beautiful 4-stroke starter and then the almost orgasmic rumble-growl coming out of those two tailpipes...and a sense of relief knowing that I was riding a Yamaha.

Sorry to hear that Rex. No manufacterer can get them all right. You do seem to have a decent amount of miles on compared to a two stroker. Not many for a 4 stroke though. Hope you get things worked out.
So far for my riding group. One 05 firecat blown engine, one with the spedo not working, two polaris's that had their gas tank covers snap off, and one of the polaris's had problems staying running after riding a bit. This year everyone seemed to go to cat so I really didn't have any doo's to ride with. Thats outside of minor stuff like a few being coldblooded.
My wife, who knows pretty much nothing about sleds outside of the basics commented that she felt a lot better having the Yamaha, because she didn't have to worry about it not running.
