Bought an Ulmer kit and it came with 4 spindle bushings. I loosened the steering knuckle assuming it would allow the ski column to slide out but the ski column is not budging. Even hit it with the hammer and nothing. Yamaha manual calls it a ski column, I call it a spindle.
So my question is how do I remove the ski column to install the bushings

I believe you have to remove the bolt, not just loosen it. There is a groove at the top of the spindle and if the bolt remains in, it won't let the spindle drop down.

Yep! remove the allen head bolt with nut , will drop into your lap.Bushings top and bottom. It will tighten it up alot. Make sure to do the steering colum bushings, my worst one was behind the oil tank.
