I ran mine all last year with the plastic blocks out, and there was no wear at all. If that isn't enough transfer for you then take the rod right out completely, it won't hurt anything except maybe a little bit of top speed

I have a turbo viper and a 2013 apex. Sorry guys, with higher gears in the turbo viper the apex doesn't come close.

I attended a radar run yesterday. It was in a cornfield, 1000 ft with a soft starting line, groomed but still choppy with a big whoop at 3/4 track.
My ZR7000 Hurricane ran a best of 154 KPH that I know of. ( The megaphone died and they stopped calling out the numbers.)
2 MPI Viper long tracks were a bit slower at around 147-148.
Stock Apex ran 151.
Modded Apex ran 161. I don't know what all he had under the hood.
Combined with what is said above, leaves me thinking I'm right around where I should be.
