All my tuning components on my 2019 XTX LE have been purchased from Hurricane and I have been more then pleased so it made sense to purchase the Gap closed loop tuning from Hurricane as well.
I already had a Gap Flasher, the SS Stock and Perf Muffler tune bundle, Dash Flash, Data Logging, Launch Control, and plug and play AFR module so I just needed to purchase the closed loop download.
The process was simple and Dave called me to confirm the details.
After I downloaded the new flash to my Gap flasher I just had to plug the Gap Flasher into my sled and using my iphone Gap App I reflashed the ECU. Everything went smoothly and after the Ecu flash was complete I started the sled and everything was normal except I had a SD-24 code flashing. The code flashed for approx 15-20 sec then disappeared. I shut down the sled and restarted and the code repeated for the same time then disappeared again. I wasn't overly concerned as the code always cleared itself but I have never had a code on my sled before so I called Hurricane.
Here's what Dave told me.
SD-24 is an O2 sensor code that has always been in the Sidewinder ECU but never activated by Yamaha because the Sidewinder in stock form does not have an O2 Sensor. Because the closed loop upgrade needs the O2 sensor to control the AFR Hurricane has activated the SD-24 O2 sensor code that was already dormant in the factory ECU.
Clever!
When I was starting the sled the ECU was sending the SD-24 code because the O2 sensor had not yet heated up and as soon as it did the code went away so obviously not an issue.
Importantly, if I were to get an SD-24 code while riding the sled it would indicate an O2 sensor failure that would need to be addressed ASAP.
I am more then impressed!
