I have a 2018 sidewinder which I installed the hurricane race bundle in ( 240,270,290 ). I also have the hurricane trail muffler which makes these tunes work perfect. I ride in Maine where the wardens are all over sleds with turbos. They want to see the exhaust and see if it's been modified. I ordered stock covers for my modified muffler which have the cert. # on them making it look original. Now the wardens are measuring outlets to see if it's been modified. ( or so I'm told ). I was curious if anyone changed the outlet back to original size on a modified muffler and if so did it work or did it play havoc on the tunes. I love the set up I have but don't want the tickets or don't know about spending more money and going back to stock muffler with the tunes that run with that. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike

Hi Mike this would be a great question for Dave at hurricane!!! With the muffler laws down your way and and up Quebec getting ridiculously stricter this may be worth reducing the outlet back to stock diameter if possible on the trail muffler or having the stock muffler gutted!!
I ran the stock muffler tune bundle most of last winter and they do work well. This would be a great option if you do not want to be harrassed

If you go back to stock outlet size you would not be able to run the performance muffler bundle.

At that point you may as well switch to stock muffler and stock muffler tune bundle of225,240&270.

First of all, i would think reducing the diameter would defeat the whole purpose of the aftermarket exhaust.
Secondly, the fine is around $100 or so. The odds of getting pulled over by a Warden with an Attitude AND a Tape Measure more than once in a year is almost nil.
I don't think they make you park it either. I could be wrong.
I still think the Stock Muffler Tunes can be made as vicious as any trail can handle.

Do some of the SM tunes come with CAI capabilities?
OR would that be pushing it?

Dave at hurricane told me both mod and stock mod tunes can run CAI without issues they were designed to be safe . Also another guy in are group SM with CAI no issues 5000km on it.

Really idiotic IMO to be checking turbo sleds that are not loud. The "cans" on 2 strokes are the noise makers that need to be changed, the turbos dont sound loud at all with specific 2.5" mufflers. Especially the replicas or stock modded.

I ran my stock modded in Qc, got pulled over two times for in depth registration stops, and never did they even think my sled was loud. Even showed one cop the muffler and he said it sounded quieter then many sleds, so had no issue with my 2.5 modded outlet.

I feel for guys who get yanked and measured....that sure sucks for all of us.

Reducing the 2.5" outlet, even if its just the outlet defeats the entire breathing purpose. Might as well just stick to stock muffler then.

Not that we did it,,,,, but a 2” pipe suspended inside the 2.5” pipe would work

We did something like this for yrs on the Harley's.

You tack weld in a 2" pipe, within the 2.5" outlet. Let it hang down further so that is what they end up measuring. But inside, its only tack welded with a few spacers, so in essence the flow is still darn near same.

sorta a stealth mod, lol...

In northern Ontario they were measuring the outlet and if it was not stock they would escort you to the nearest road and make you load it on a tow truck. You were done lol.

Really where was that?

Id be curious too, because Ive never heard or seen this. Its also not illegal to change your exhaust in Ontario, the OPP are misinterpreting the law to suit them, but that's another story.

I also am curious I ride in between sault ste Marie north bay and Timmins and never came across this either!!!!! I even know guy that been stopped in these areas with aftermarket muffler (quiet ones) and they never been bothered!!!

Be careful restricting the outlet , suspended probably ok but a straight reduction builds heat.
