Hyfax wear and wheel spacer kit

Mighty, how many would one need for a 121" track that has every 3rd window clipped?

I don't have many miles on my 04 RX-1. But been doing some reading and it seems that there could be an issue with the hyfax wearing down quickly.

Pioneer Profmance has a "Hyfax extender wheel spacer kit" that claims to really extend the life of your hyfax.

1st, is wear an issue on our RX's? And 2nd has anyone used one of these kits?

Thanks,

Ken

Hookman I have an 04 warrior and I just changed the original Hyfax with over 5600 miles on them! This is the longest I have ever had Hyfax on, so with me its not an issue. ;)!

Mighty Warrior,

Those anti-wear pads look like something you could buy at a hardware store???

Can't tell how big the head is???

Probably the size of a quarter to 50 cent piece. I also believe they are stainless steel.
The illustration isn't right, it makes it look like a screw head when in reality it's more like a stud head.

So I take it these get poked thru the track where there is no windo?
hmmm...more holes in the track....=(

What's the difference if there's a big hole cut in it for the window or this relatively small pin prick :ORC

I put those SLP anti- wear pads on my Warrior last year and it made a believer out of me! ;)! Like I said, I put 5600 miles on my Hyfax before changing them and I gained a few MPH on the top end. :flag:

I won't leave home without them

I have an 04 RX1 121 inch. Hyfax not an issue. Have about 3300 miles on them and I'm sure they will go another couple thousand.

The Pioneer wheel kit will do a good job extending the life of the hyfax. Larger wheels will do the same thing. Whatever you do, DO NOT buy the oversize urethane wheels from Maximum Performance. They will last only a few hundred miles before they are junk! I bought a set, they failed and Max Perf. would not stand behind them.

I agree with the Max Perf wheels, disinegrated before my eyes one day. My dealer told me to use the low snow wheel kit from yamaha and these bigger ones from Max Perf. I have put back on the stock (smaller) wheels, but was thinking about going back to a larger wheel, like the ones from Max perf, only better quality. Which ones do you guys recommend (idlers) and what about the bogeys? 5,000 miles and still stock? that's scary

By the way, I put the Hiperfax slides on at about 1,500 miles and they are still looking excellent 3,500 mi later. Big $$$ for slides, but seems like a real nice product and one less thing to worry about

I tried the Max Perf. wheels on my 2002 SRX. After the problems I had with the wheels from Max Perf., I put 4 of the 6 stock wheels back on. I used two aftermarket wheels from Kimpex for the set that is towards the rear of the skid inside the rails. I bought wheels which were approx. 1/2" larger in dia. For the other 4 wheels mounted on the outside of the rails, I removed the stock concentric bushing which fits into the center of the bearing and replaced it with a bushing which has the hole off-center by 5 millimeters. This moves the stock wheels down by 5mm. I did the exact same thing to my RX-1 the day I got it home. I have 5700 miles on the original set of hyfax and they look new. The SRX nows has 4000 miles on the same set of hyfax. Prior to doing this the SRX would wear down a new set of hyfax in the first few hundred miles to the midpoint, even in terrific deep powder conditions, then stop wearing. I wish I had more time, I'd make these bushings for anyone who wants them. It sure is nice to not have to worry about the hyfax problem any more.

I am also going to put the SLP kit on my 03 RX1. This kit can only help. If the track slides easier on the hyfax with this kit while the sled is on a stand, it has to make a big difference under load. I'm also going to add a set of the 8" dia. plastic rear wheels. I believe it was Adrirondack Blue who had an RX1 at the event on the Otis res. 2 years ago with the 8" wheels on his sled. It was consistently a two MPH faster than everyone else. I'm not as interested in speed as I am gas mileage. The more I can reduce friction, the farther she'll go. Gas stops in northern Quebec get pretty far apart, especially at night. Running out of gas up there while riding alone really sucks!!!!!!

I just finished replacing my hyfax. They were almost worn through at the bend in the rails. This is with 1300km of riding in decent snow conditions with the correct track tension!
I think this IS a problem. I would get about 4x that mileage with my Cat before changing them.
