Hyfax wear / Extroverts ??

My Wife has 1200 miles on Her Nytro and they still look new. Maybe She doesn't ride hard or fast enough to wear them out? I know I have been on DooTalk and while most guys don't say anything about hyfax wear there are a few posts about it. Some guys are claiming 4 sets of hyfax in 1000 miles with the XP and others claim they have over 3000 miles and no wear at all. I don't know why all the conflicting reports?

Snow conditions have everything to do with it...Groomed trails are comfortable but are very hard on hyfax. I had no problem for the first 800 miles, but the last 200 miles have been on mainly hard trails and the off-trail conditions are hard pack as well.

However, I never had this issue on my Firecat. Over 2000 miles of both hard and soft snow and no visible hyfax wear.

My last ride was the most shocking. 80 miles with only about 10-15 of that being on real hard snow. Brand new hyfax worn almost to the wear mark, but only at the rail bend.

I ordered an idler wheel kit yesterday.

I have 2700km on mine, probally 1500 of which are groomed trials, checked them before my ride saturday and they are still fine.

unless i,m seeing things the approach angle on the front skid of the xtx looks a lot less than the short track nytro

The xtx has a shallow approach angle and a fully clipped ripsaw so slide wear should be normal but for all of you with the short tracks having trouble why dont you get slp anti wear pads. They are only $20-25 and will stop your hyfax problem. They only weigh 1.5lbs so its not like your adding rotating mass. I had slide issues with my apex rtx last year as well. Bought the pads and have over 2000 miles on pads and slides and the slides have no wear at all and the pads still look great. No burning plastic or rubber smell, its such a simple fix. Even if you change pads and slides once per year you dont have $50 invested and it sounds a lot better than slides every week plus your time of changing them.

I have 2400 miles on the orginal set. It seemed to wear fast to the mark. Then hasn't changed in 1500 miles.

I run a fully clipped track with extro,s. Loose or tight ...the sliders go down to 11mm mark immediately(20-40 miles) then stay there for a long time.

I think it is all about snow conditions. My first set of sliders were used only on soft trails made of fresh powder. They did last 2500 kilometers without any problems. Then we had a day of warm weather followed by cold weather, and no fresh snow for a week. The trails did not get icy but still very hard and "dry". Even though I installed two extra idler wheels, I had to use two sets of sliders in less than 1000 kilometers.

On my Vector, I ended up installing an extra set of wheels, as well as using larger "Skidoo sized" wheels. This really cut down on slider wear for me. Anyone do this on the Nytro?

You can,t use that bogie system on a nytro. The way the skid compresses it would destroy any extra larger idlers.

my sliders were wearing fine till the turbo, in 300kms with the turbo the front of the sliders wore down A LOT. i know that they were getting warm on the trails, i stop often to kick snow in but it only helps to a point.
I've now added scratchers to try and help a bit. So now mine are almost done in 1000kms, i ordered new ones and they should be after i'm back from Kelowna(by which time the sliders will be 100% dead i'm sure), hopefully they are the right ones so i can have the new ones in before i go to McBride again. I'll look into a longer lasting set of sliders or adding idlers during summer.

I installed extra wheels just in front of the rear swingarm (see attached picture). Though, standard size.

I just almost wore out a brand new set of hyfax in about 840 km. They are down to the wear line right where the extra wheels are mounted in the post before mine.

I have my limiter strap pulled down one hole in the front so they hyfax are perfect coming backwards well past the bend.

Are there any other hyfax that fit? Another manufacturer or after market? What frustrates me the most is the fact they don't stock the damn things anywhere.

i got my nytro used from the dealer there where worn out and the dealer had a whole box of hyfaxes instock the also have hard hyfax u can get for inproved performance (last longer) and a low snow wheel kit

Turk, what part # are you using for the Doo Extroverts? The part number I used last year also says it comes with axle. Been using wahl bro's on my last few installs but I'd rather get the Doo units.
